Another reason to not use AI is of course that it's a vector for not only corporate censorship but outright manipulation. You are prompting a system built by and designed to serve corporations' version of reality. And open models won't save you; they're distilled from the corporate models.

Among things Meta did in Brazil was have their AI bot within WhatsApp allow users to generate election poster for Flavio but deny requests to do so for Lula. When folks asked for posters for invented candidates, AI tagged them with #22 - Flavio's # - in a country where folks vote by #.

I appreciate the bar is quite low but this excerpt from an interview with Molyneux about AI is almost too on the nose. Nice anecdote about a colleague he used to respect and enjoy working with, followed by an explanation of how him and everyone like him is now expendable.

"I'll talk in general terms. I won't talk about ourselves. Let's say you and I thought about a game, you know, let's set it in an old Carpathian mountain village. And it starts in a graveyard, and there's this young girl wandering around the graveyard looking lost. Now, traditionally, what you would do is you'd have someone… like there was a genius concept artist at Lionhead called Mike McArthur, and I'd sit down with Mike McArthur [and] I'd say, yeah, there's this girl, and she's wandering. How old is the girl? Mike might say. I don't know, maybe she's about 12. Okay, and is it an old church, a new church? You know, we'd have this conversation. "[So] he would go away. Two weeks later, he would come back. Then, do you mean this girl? This child? Oh no, I don't really like the girl. She looks too pretty. She should be, you know, starving, and he goes away for another week, comes back. Yeah. [Now] you can do all that concepting work in five minutes [with AI].

We go see our nephew for Halloween and the whole neighborhood turns out for trick or treating. My job is Car Adult. I watch for cars. Are there a lot of cars? No, it’s a neighborhood street. But there’s also a lot of hidden corners and odd cross streets. And 20-something kids. Never too safe
