The 13th annual international Gender Census 2026 is now open until at least 13th August 2026! survey.gendercensus.com It's for anyone whose gender (or lack thereof) isn't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and results are useful in academia, business and self-advocacy. #LGBTQ

Images: On the left, a box with a Venus/female symbol on it, patterned with tree bark. On the right, a box with a Mars/male symbol on it, patterned with grass.

'I have come to the conclusion that, while not just anything can be Sword & Sorcery, Sword & Sorcery can be anything. There could be no more varied a collection of stories—varied in tone, in setting, in protagonist, in subject—yet all easily fit within the brawny, welcoming arms of the sacred genre'

Woo!!! Swords and Sorcery Magazine just published the omnibus review I wrote for the four @newedgeswordmag.bsky.social novellas (and one novelette!) that @obrackenbury.bsky.social is releasing this year. Head on over, and have a look! (spoiler: I loved them all)

Zofia Kielan-Jaworowska, famed Polish palaeontologist, discovering key Cretaceous dinosaurs and mammals. Along with her family, awarded Righteous Among the Nations, for saving Jewish women, notably Romana Laks, who became neurologist. Young Zofia was a part of anti-Nazi Polish paramilitary.

NESS is great, and I'm not just saying that. Help @obrackenbury.bsky.social in his quest for delicious subs (stories and his eternal quest for the best sandwich in Canada). A wonderful team, communicative, friendly, and builders of a great community!

Reviewed What Rough Beast? by @brynhammond.bsky.social. Marvelous prose borders on the poetic; we get to better know Goatskin the nomad herself during her compelling journey; and best of all, we see nomads written as whole people, cognizant of the histories and power dynamics they reckon with.
