Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Park Chan-wook, and Jean-luc Godard all worked as film critics. Having faculties to critically examine existing artwork is a fundamental tool for anyone aspiring to do any kind of worthwhile creative work. Knowing what you don’t want is as important as knowing what you want.

After watching back to back Kon Ichikawa discs, I knew I wanted to keep exploring his filmography. Thankfully the Criterion Channel exists because they have several of his films on there. Truly the only streaming service worth a damn.
Sad to hear of the passsing of Jeremy Thomas, one of those stalwarts who kept the British film industry alive and created more than a few classics on the way - THE SHOUT and MERRY CHRISTMAS MR LAWRENCE immediately spring to mind.
