South West England via Spain and the Midlands - but made in NW5. Trying hard not to give in to despair

Turned on Question Time by mistake and managed five minutes of Suella Braverman’s toxic stupidity before turning off. How can she cheer for the England football team when, according to her, most of its players aren’t English?

Yes.

The one thing almost guaranteed to revive Catalan separatism is a PP/Vox government. That was why Sánchez should never have gone near Junts. They long for confrontation with Madrid. It is what drives them above all else. They are ethno-nationalist, Catalan supremacists.

The biggest mistake Pedro Sánchez ever made was to do a deal with Junts after the last election when he should have called another one that PSOE would have won. It looked like a disastrous move at the time, and so it has proved. Sánchez killed off Catalan separatism. But Catalonia will destroy him.

the Spanish govt looks certain to lose both housing decrees in the congressional vote tmrw bc the rightist Catalan nationalists won´t back them. Have they made a deal with the PP? Chance of a late November election shoots up unless there is a last minute deal to change their minds

A PR voting system creates the kind of stability that allows for long-term planning. As things stand, Labour could get cracking on an NCS tomorrow, lose power to a party that gets 30% of the vote and see all the work done thrown out. That is an insane waste of time and resource.

Am I just missing the coverage of the Holborn & St Pancras by-election or is it just that there isn't very much? If the latter, I guess it's conference season, but it's still a bit surprising.

You either bow down to the assumption that voters’ preferences are fixed or at least exogenous. Or you decide that they’re malleable and endogenous - and so prepare to make a political argument. Better, perhaps, to risk dying on your feet than live on your knees.

Yet Chelsea have successfully created a PR narrative that they fessed up, hence the paltry fine. Fact is, the FA appears to have believed that using hidden fees to land players like Eden Hazard, Willian, Nemanja Matic didn't confer a sporting advantage. Make of that what you will.

Getting a bit sick of the narrative that Chelsea FC received a lenient punishment because they self-reported. Many of the offshore payments exposed by the Guardian and media partners were not self-reported (possibly because the new owners didn't know, although we can't be sure of that).
