Also: the '60s didn't swing for millions of people, and as ever, an often false history is written by a narrow band of people, simply because they have the privilege and means to do so.

Gravediggers were probably paid quite well, too, compared to other manual workers. This is the reality behind the "corned beef of my childhood" nostalgia slop.

Attended a Legend on the Bench unveiling in Basingstoke today, in memory of Joe Powell. Truly moving and inspiring, and it’s the 137th such suicide prevention bench the charity has installed. Honestly the work Micky Hazard and his sister Michelle have done and continue to do is awe inspiring.

He animated the sequence by himself for more than four months -- without computers or even an easy way to check his work. The Music Is Black exhibition at V&A East: recommended, with caveats. Does a very good job as a primer, features some great artefacts and displays. But key stuff missing IMHO: too little on the crucial era post-disco and pre-house, too much on more recent genres that owe much to that previous era.
