Sadly it is the case that this has been internalized to such an extent that there are otherwise normal people who will look at an online space and wonder what's wrong with it if they aren't seeing people openly discussing 1920s race science right away

I quite like jank as the opposite of slop. Slop is smooth, pre-chewed. Jank is unpolished, jagged. Slop works like how you would expect, because you've seen it a million times before, while jank (mal)functions in unexpected ways.

Tbh, this kind of friction happens when we practice new skills or try to get better at something. It happens when we seek out challenges to our acquired skills or when we "test" ourselves in the world. The friction and its overcoming are valued in these moments.

So, I find it pretty problematic that the Canada Revenue Agency is recording conversations btwn citizens & agents for the purpose of training their AI. A recorded message informs you of this prior to speaking to an agent and there is no opting out. You have to give your SIN, DOB, address etc. 🤯☠️
