This sort of thing is a really serious worry to me even in a best-case scenario of Democrats managing to control authoritarian drift for two years and then winning the Presidency and substantial majorities. The policy problem fallout they'll have to face are almost as daunting or worse than in 2008.

It seems really clear that by 2028, we're going to have an empty SPR, substantial munitions shortages, greater strategic challenges, a larger national debt and substantially higher bond rates which will massively constrain future administrations.

Win by ~1%. Third candidate: 4%. A classic plurality-voting pathology: small splinter groups can be decisive. Every primary should use a consensus-building procedure like approval voting or ranked choice.

Haley Stevens was out with a gracious concession and a commitment to support Abdul El-Sayed within about one hour of the AP call in her race. If she can buck up first thing in the morning, everyone else can. That’s actual political leadership.

I meant to post this last night but if you’re mad about any of the primary results you got 24 hours to bleed, try not to say anything you’ll regret in 48, and then it’s Blue No Matter Who.

Takes like this are very tempting but IMO go too far. The polling miss last night was historically exactly average for a primary — no evidence polls have gotten worse recently. And remember 2022 had the most accurate House and Senate polls in history! bsky.app/profile/gell...

This is a “tax & spend” Presidency. The President asserts he can unilaterally impose taxes (via tariffs & via “settlements” w/arbitrarily targeted corps), & that he can unilaterally spend unauthorized funds from the Treasury.
