I quite like the Belgian approach to capping political donations

Neoliberals have neutered direct state investment in infrastructure. Everything is privatised, state guarantees profits. UK languishes at or near the bottom of the OECD league for investment in productive assets. China invests over 41% of its GDP in productive assets, India 34.3%, UK 17.9%.

If the UK government had any common sense at all, they'd mount a major publicity campaign to counter this sort of disinformation. The reason many people oppose immigration is that, like this guy, they're ignorant of the true facts about what immigrants bring and what they get.
You would think that excessive donations are hurting democracy, right?
Perhaps the Deputy Leader of Durham County Council, Darren Grimes can ask Farage for £36 million to help close the council's funding gap
A reminder that Delo previously pled guilty in the US to violating money laundering protections and agreed to pay a $10 million fine for "willfully” breaking the law with his BitMex platform, which was described as "in effect a money laundering platform.” This is who owns Farage now
Billionaires who don't pay taxes give tens of millions of pounds to the racist right while newspapers owned by billionaires who don't pay taxes smear the politicians who challenge them. Because they want to ensure 'a fair fight and a level playing field', apparently.
When the media tells you the UK is overrun by foreigners or Muslims or immigrants , they are lying to you .
Let me help the Labour party There are no legitimate concerns about immigration
I think I basically agree with Stephen's column from earlier this week, Labour don't really have an explanation for what are legitimate concerns about immigration and what aren't, so they're treating everything as legitimate.
What I love about Western democracy is you can bung a political party £ 36 million earned from criminal activity & most media will continue to point at asylum seekers & migrant care workers with families as the barbarians at the gate we need to defend ourselves from 🙄.
I genuinely hope Farage spends the £36m on fags. That should expedite heart disease and emphysema. The cunt.
An entire politics and worldview animated by a lively terror that somewhere, somebody might be eating a free cheese sandwich

I’m a *historian of the Labour Party*, I am not naive about Labour’s history of imperialism, anti-immigration, etc etc. But there was in fact a golden age when they were fairly clearly not pro-fascist.

Hampshire police "found no offences had been committed" I am sceptical that there would be no potential offences in posting the messages which recruited 30-40 people to attend the hotel. It would be good to see more about what was described as the purpose of that www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The statistics are available here www.gov.uk/government/s... Nothing in the Government's asylum reforms will sort out initial decision making. Instead, lots of time and money will go into creating new systems that will make refugees' lives harder.

and then they send you the naturalisation certificate back absolutely mangled in a floppy envelope, triggering months of hassle as they insist *you* pay hundreds of pounds for a replacement. abolish the home office
IPPR: People applying to become British citizens are charged more than five times the amount it costs the Home Office to process their application The £1,709 naturalisation fee compares with estimated admin cost of just £324. Applicants also pay extra £130 for a citizenship ceremony if successful
"It's massively unfortunate that I couldn't lead a lynch mob" is a helluva a way to go through life as an elected official.
I've talked to the Reform councillor in Portsmouth who had to explain to a masked vigilante mob outside the city's Marriott hotel that a group of young men who had arrived on a coach were not asylum seekers but an U21 cricket team from Pakistan. He called it a “massively unfortunate incident”.
They're now just targeting random groups of dark-skinned people. What's going to have to happen before the government starts taking this seriously? www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/politic...

Seriously, if you think hordes of balaclava-clad thugs are in the same category as homespun-wearing middle-class pensioners holding placards, you need to give your head a wobble.
Yelling "stop the boats!" as I charge in to rob this NatWest at gun point so that I can later call the Home Secretary as a character witness and the BBC will spend two weeks telling all my potential future jurors how legitimate my concerns were.
When I lived in the UK none of my concerns e.g. affordable housing, climate action, increases in welfare spending, scrapping tuition fees, an ethical foreign policy, were ever framed as legitimate concerns. lnstead I was routinely told to fuck off by most political parties for having such concerns.
