I'm still doing a GoFundMe to help my parents rebuild after a devastating house fire. The costs of doing so, with an uninsured house, are extremely high. My parents are elderly and low-income and my disabled brother lives with them. I deeply appreciate shares of this link! gofund.me/ac93c03d5

Congrats to the great @gabino.bsky.social on his extraordinarily unhinged novel THE DEVIL TAKES YOU HOME for being a finalist the Premio Kelvin for Best Translated Novel. The Kelvin's are Spain's top awards for fantastic literature. He's got some damned good company! locusmag.com/2026/06/2026...

In a new Member Spotlight, literary agent Renée Zuckerbrot discusses what draws her to a manuscript, the effects of the industry’s financial challenges on agents and editors today, and the joy of literary community. https://pen.org/conversation-with-renee-zuckerbrot/ #authors #agents #books

Literary agent Renée Zuckerbrot seen smiling at top right above a quote from her that reads: "I have two favorite things. One is, for lack of a better word, 'discovering' a writer. ... And the second thing is sharing good news with a client." The PEN America logo is at the bottom right.

Thoughts on the idea of increasing the prizes for writing contests based on the number of submissions? Say there's a base first prize of $1000, then it goes up to $2500 once there are 350 entries? And $5000 at 550 entries, etc.? The scaling/tiers would be published at the start of contest.

A week or so ago, I was looking for a couple books by an author from 10 and 15 years ago and my library didn't have them. I requested them via a library form. Today I got a notification in Libby that they purchased both titles. Asking your library for writers' books is an amazing way to support us.

Publisher's Weekly apparently enjoyed "LIBERATION NOW!", coming out this August. "Doubinsky orchestrates this wild and surprisingly optimistic plot via rapid shifts of perspective, with close attention paid to the main characters’ personal transitions. " www.publishersweekly.com/9781965740033

Over at @barrelhouse.bsky.social I interviewed @kurtbaumeister.bsky.social about his <complimentary>truly bonkers</complimentary> book Twilight of the Gods, fucking around with norse mythology, and of course Patrick Swayze movies. www.barrelhousemag.com/blog/barrelh...

Barrelhousing with Kurt Baumeister, Author of Twilight of the Gods — Barrelhouse

“Maybe I’m desperate for the ordered universe implied by these mythologies? Maybe I just love big, bad, shoot-em-up endings? Or, maybe they’re really just the same thing?”

In a Turing Test of sorts, it looks like a 100% AI generated story just won the Commonwealth Prize for the Caribbean region "for its lyrical precision and haunting atmosphere, the story stood out for the confidence and restraint of its voice." Published in Granta: granta.com/the-serpent-...

Want some creepiness for your Saturday? I have a new story with Weird Horror:

You Were Just Here — Weird Horror Magazine

When I was a kid, I remember cutting my arm on a barbed wire fence. My mom fainted when she saw it, and the sight of her falling made me forget about the pain, about the warmth of the blood as it ran down my skin. I’d never seen my mom, my strong mom, weak in the face of anything. In the doctor’s office while the doctor cleaned my cut and stitched it up, I asked him if my mom was alright. He said, she’ll be fine, it was just a response some people have when they get triggered by certain things, shocks to the system. Vasovagal syncope, he called it. I still remember the phrase, years later. Thought of it, thought of my mom falling when the world was ending. It’s funny how you remember things like that.
