I found the "OMG AI ISN'T SEARCH WE LOSE SOMETHING INEXPRESSIBLE ABOUT THE HUMAN SPIRIT IF WE'RE NOT USING THE SPECIFIC GOOGLE DOT COM I MADE MY FANCY TECH CAREER ON DON'T LOOK TOO CLOSELY YOU'LL REALIZE IT WAS ADS THE WHOLE TIME" stuff really annoying on here the other day so here is a comparison
I really have no patience left for design speculation without empiricism
I’m curious if any #scienceofscience folks have seen estimates of the rate/level/pathways of diffusion of methods research into methods practice! (Secretly also wondering if modular research could improve diffusion)
I cannot believe how many of these RCTs used a change/percent change outcomes. Because the literature is so clear on the topic I honestly thought this issue was resolved! @f2harrell.bsky.social @stephensenn.bsky.social
The Atmosphere needs more drawbridges. - Meet folks where they are, don't make them migrate - Augment their environments in useful ways - Make it easy to make them publish to the Atmosphere.
Just released an early preview of Zemble, a @zotero.org plugin for @semble.so! - Augment you Zotero library with all of the activity happening on Semble/Atmosphere. - Easily save and view items in Zotero on Semble. - Publish Zotero collections as Semble collections.

Check out this exciting workshop at @acm-cscw.bsky.social in October! Calling #ATScience builders and researchers to participate and share your work - lots of synergies with what we're doing here ✨
Friends! I'm bad at advertising but better late than never! I'm co-organizing a workshop at #CSCW2026 exploring the future of infrastructure, in conversation with its deep roots in CSCW scholarship. Please join us! cscw2026-infrastructure-workshop.github.io My short pitch below 👇

The Future of Peer Review
A major new RoRI report reveals that peer review is at a breaking point and outlines an ambitious blueprint for system-wide reform

The paperback of “Invisible Rulers: The Ppl Who Turn Lies Into Reality” comes out in 1 mo. It has the story of the machine that went after us in a new epilogue.(Invisiblerulers.com) Media folks, pls cover this loss for AFL. I’m very happy to talk ab it. The public needs to understand these attacks.
Fascinating talk on the history of peer review from Melinda Baldwin at @icssi.org, with some parallels to current crises. Also I hadn't realized peer review was such an American thing.
My contribution to the ongoing "1%" science discourse is this picture you can send to your favourite preprint author(s) after reading their papers to tell them you liked their work! #SciArt #PawReview
+1 and also petition for the bsky team to sponsor or contribute to @spacecowboy17.bsky.social !
I know a bunch of bsky employees follow me, please, just set For You to be the default or in the set of defaults. The atmosphere is definitely the end-goal but in the short term having bluesky be usable benefits all of that
I know it seems like a heretical idea, but one way to figure out if a preprint is really interesting (to you) is... to read the preprint. Then, in the spirit of sharing, send a note to authors: a simple kudos or a more detailed question. I do this a dozen times a year. It's awesome. Try it.
It's finally PREORDER DAY for The Psychology of Software Teams!!!!! Which means you are just a few clicks away from your own personal guidebook to being more human in tech 🥰 www.drcathicks.com#book

⚡ Metaventory: building better science ⚡ Had many discussions about the need for mapping out all that's meta-science: people, tools, events, jobs, simulations, etc. in one place. Metaventory aims to help connect those interested in meta-science & improving science. metaventory.vercel.app
Thinking abt verifiable manifests to this effect (for correctness - eg metacheck, refine.ink) + traceable machine readable signals of significance/quality over time as a new equilibrium replacement for one-stop pre-pub review in science. Better/worse than status quo?

my firey take (for bluesky standards) is that at this point it’s trending towards disrespectful to submit for human review a PR that you wrote fully by hand if you didn’t have an agent review it first. this idea doesn’t apply just to agent-written code, its all code.
This was a blast! Some nuggets: 0: Preprints are amazing 1: Let's build infra that empowers rich interactions with *constellations* of scientific objects 2: Narratives are great + meaning-bearing, let's keep them alongside structured semantics 3: AI motivates + could greatly enable (1) + (2)
