No #waxcaps on this, or any of my other usual sites so far this year. This slope has had a good range of species in recent years, including ballerina waxcap. Is anyone else seeing this ? South facing slope with severe grass die off from June to the end of August.
Reading this reminded me that it's not just freshwater fish that Blackbird chicks receive. On @skokholmisland.bsky.social, Blackbirds carry Sandeels to the nest, scavenged from the Puffin colony. Don't know if they line them up as neatly between the mandibles. skokholm.blogspot.com/2025/06/toda...

Skokholm Island is an internationally important seabird haven, was Britain's first Bird Observatory and is an amazing place to experience migration.

Blackbirds have been recorded catching live fish to feed their young, with observations from across Europe suggesting the behaviour may be more widespread than previously recognised:
The problem is not really Jackdaw, which is pretty small. The problem is the UK's plan to transition away from fossil fuels is still not ambitious and detailed enough. The problem is if Rosebank follows. The problem is if every country develops one last fossil fuel project we're all screwed.
With almost none of Dartmoor's common land SSSIs in favourable condition, ecological recovery must come first. Natural England's job is to uphold environmental protections, not win the approval of those it regulates. 🔥 Wildfire must not become an excuse for further upland degradation.

Only £300 of this was a fine, the other £400 was "court costs" - and that must surely be a fraction of the costs of the local authority, police and court, before even counting the clean-up? Not that serious an offence then, when the rest of us foot the bill.
A fly-tipping incident at one of Wales' most iconic landscapes has resulted in a fine of £700 - with the local council reminding residents that fly-tipping is a serious offence which can result in enforcement action and significant financial penalties
Astonishing. Prestatyn to Cardiff in six hours is only marginally slower than the Sunday train service between the two towns, and it looks as though Mike took the most mountainous route he could find! #BatsInWales will be of interest to #BirdingWales too.
Continuing my theme of "Why would a bat weighing 6g do this??" look what Mike did last night. 👀 (yellow highlight). At 18.40, he was holidaying in Prestatin. By half past midnight he was in Cardiff. In a straight line that's 130 miles in under 6 hours. #bats #wildlife #movementecology
