Finished Ian McEwan’s “What We Can Know”. Absolutely terrific work. McEwan is like Pep Guardiola in that he is a genius who is always experimenting and sometimes it works and sometimes he gets humped by Bayern Munich. This time it absolutely worked.
The "in real life" part suggests that his career nastiness was just a persona. I'm reminded of Vonnegut's "Mother Night" - "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be."
And I find her failure to be across the detail especially surprising given her boasts about being an engineer
I think two of her flaws are her contemptuousness and lack of detail. And that came across when she said that councillors were only responsible for bins and parking. Does she really not know about the statutory duties of councils?
Badenoch's two biggest flaws are that she's nowhere near as smart as she thinks she is and is incapable of admitting error. Both well illustrated by this fiasco.
