This speech from Mercer Island councilmember Craig Reynolds in support of reducing barriers to building permanent supportive housing is a remarkable thing to hear from an elected official in Mercer Island. "NIMBYism is not an effective strategy politically."

A sizable group of Mercer Island residents are incensed by a new state law requiring their city to accommodate homes for people exiting homelessness, showing up to a council meeting urging CMs keep permanent supportive housing banned. One resident compared the law to the construction of I-90.
