📍Seattle. City design is pretty cool 🏙️🚂🏳️🌈 *views are my own*
We need to regulate the height of vehicles in the country. This truck outside my building is massive. I’m 5’10” and the hood is at my neck! You could fit a school bus worth of children in his blind spots.
The American (and Australian!) mind can’t comprehend Swiss apartment plans. No corridors. Two apartments per core. Means all homes all dual aspect with great access to light and ventilation. In Basel. Architects are Miller & Maranta
The air is full of smoke, the food is full of parasites, and the water is full of data center bacteria but at least we stopped all that DEI children's cancer research!
The rise of larger vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks, with their taller hoods and larger blind zones, has contributed to a 75% increase in pedestrian and cyclist deaths since 2009. Until we design better streets and ban these vehicles, people outside these vehicles will keep dying.

The vehicles on American roads have grown larger — and they are killing thousands more pedestrians, a Times investigation found.

Design fire trucks for your city, not the other way around.
Seattle's light rail & streetcar lines carried 4.8 million riders in April—a 44% increase above March, after Link Line 2 was extended to connect Seattle & Bellevue across Lake Washington. Seattle's light rail & streetcar lines are now the most-ridden in the nation, above LA, Boston, or San Diego.
“Having a car should not be a requirement to building a life of one’s choosing.” 🚶 🚴♀️ 🚌 🚆 -Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson at the Sound Transit Crosslake Light Rail Opening
None of this would be happening right now if Trump had gone to prison for January 6th like he should have
As a public service, I thought I'd offer a little constructive criticism of the most popular styles of bike racks, since it appears that the entities that manufacture and install these racks are clueless about the needs of actual bike riders.
These kinds of human scale, mixed-use Midwest dive bars are illegal to open and operate in most American neighborhoods.
Just imagine saying this about another country. Would you visit? Do business with? Sign a treaty with? It’s gonna take a lot to heal from this.
It’s possible we live in a country where 25-35% of the population thinks it’s good and just that masked armies are sent into blue cities to execute people who vote the wrong way
Staying current with US news is just exhausting. But then I keep thinking, well, the horrors persist but so do I. To repair we need folks who care about making this a better country. I like to think we can all play a part in that.
I think it's funny how much time and effort we spend trying to create warnings for future civilizations about radioactive waste dumps, as if any of us actually heeded the warnings on ancient tombs. Humans do not heed warnings unless deeply tied to religious dogma. And even then!
"How can men help women feel safer cycling at night?" Social designers Lisa Strijbosch and Maartje de Goede in partnership with the @Fietsersbond.nl created the 'Mannenstoplicht' to encourage men to voluntarily stop and reflect on their role in nightlife." Read about the project: buff.ly/xiEZg0P
TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque: "This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".
Riding my e-bike (with a Link connection) to a Friendsgiving. Yup I’m home. Btw love seeing these new system maps up. The 2 Line connection across the Lake cannot come soon enough. I’m ready for double the frequency headed north!
Trump admin Is attempting to massive cut federal transit funds, seeking to: 1–Eliminate transit account, which funds billions of $ in capital expenses for transit agencies 2–Prevent state DOTs from “flexing” funds for transit These changes, if they occurred, would be devastating for US transit.
POLITICO Pro: Trump administration proposals seek to eliminate transit funding
DOT recently sent two proposals to the White House budget office seeking to pare back transit money.

E-bike riders. My landlord says e-bikes may no longer be allowed in my building due to perceived fire risk I guess the Tesla in the garage is fine 🙄 Is this legal? Not in my lease. Battery is UL certified, so truly low risk Maybe this can be a new renter protection? @wilsonkatieb.bsky.social

Bruce Harrell can still lose the Seattle mayoral race if late ballots break significantly for Katie Wilson
Those who aren't steeped in Emerald City politics might look at the initial results for Mayor of Seattle and conclude the incumbent has won reelection. But the challenger can still win with a late ballot surge. That's not only possible or plausible, it's probable.

Minneapolis built more housing than any other major Midwest city & it’s not a mystery why. They allowed modest density housing types city-wide, cut regressive parking mandates, and made it easier to build apartments near transit. The results: more homes + slowed rent growth.
No surface parking. 0ft side, 5ft front, and 3ft rear setbacks. And a huge amount of private green space. I’m obsessed. This is how you keep a city green AND grow.
Courtyard buildings are the answer.
You love to see it! Can’t wait to ride this new section.
