Have gotten five texts like this in the last 24 hours. “President Trump authorized a $5K check for William Kristol - but you need to confirm your official approval in the next 10min.” Makes you wonder if it wasn’t ever aimed at voters, but was always just part of a fund-raising scam.

They built a feature without thinking about how it would work. This is just idiots testing in production on an internet connected server. The answer to stop this idiocy is to use existing laws and legal resources to go after the humans who did this. Stop assigning agency to tools.

I think the political left should be the loudest voice calling for an AI model development pause, frontier pacing, and mandatory third party audits right now. Put aside the doomer stuff (though I think it’s plausible), we just found out that OpenAI’s agents committed a pretty major felony!

Happy Labor Day. Speaking of laboring, the Nationals have blown a major league record 37 saves this season. If they’d converted just a third of those they’d comfortably have a wildcard spot in hand.

Wow. $15,000-20,000 refundable tax credit (you get the money like a grant if your taxes aren't as high as the benefit) for keeping journalists hired. $15,000 for hiring new ones. $7,500 for hiring part-time. For-profit, nonprofit, **sole-proprietors** — doesn't matter. How did this happen???

We received a slightly overdue book last week: a copy of 'The Lord God Made Them All' by James Herriot sent all the way from Portland, with the original circulation card from 1983! This is a great time to remind everyone that we are fine-free, but please try to return your books within this decade.
