Remembering Albert Camus on his birthday 🎂 📷 Henri Cartier-Bresson, 1944 "Looking at the famous portrait by Cartier-Bresson from the forties you see why people thought of him as a star & not just as a sage; you also see that he knew the effect he was having." - Adam Gopnik

Camus turns to the camera. He's wearing an overcoat & smoking a cigarette.

So thrilling to see Habs advance to playoffs! We've had better teams, of course, and more finished teams -- but I can't recall a Montreal Canadiens team that played with more heart, more spirit , or had a brighter core of young players.

Another seasonal favorite. Does anyone know this book? We're reading it again today. Adam Gopnik is one of my favorite writers — So smart and sensitive. His words are always thoughtful and inspiring. Find a copy if you haven't read it yet. It's so good! ❄️✨

“The opposite of humanism is not theism but fanaticism; the opposite of liberalism is not conservatism but dogmatism. Fanaticism is therefore the chief enemy of humanism, and fanaticism in political life is the chief enemy of the liberal ideal.”—Adam Gopnik, A Thousand Small Sanities (2019)
