🔴 Renewable energy should support a just transition - not entrench an occupation. Evidence suggests Morocco has completed Aftissat 3 & 4 in occupied #WesternSahara, expanding the wind complex to 550 MW. Read more: wsrw.org/en/news/occu...
Genuine question... What if I don't want them? I'm sick of tech firms adding AI to everything without my asking. This is artificially inflating the use of these platforms, further driving the expansion of the financial pyramid scheme the tech bros are pushing to further enrich themselves. No thanks
It’s taken me a while to get to it but this discussion between @zackpolanski.bsky.social and @willdalrymple.bsky.social is superb. www.youtube.com/watch?v=13zQ...

Boozing in the sun, mocking JK Rowling and Joanna Cherry, and generally pissing off all the right people ... I am absolutely loving Nicola Sturgeon's new 'couldn't GAF' mode right now. She lives rent free in the minds of her haters - and she knows it My column in @heraldscotland.bsky.social
I am so enjoying Sturgeon’s ‘couldn’t GAF’ attitude right now

If I was a crow, I’d be pretty fucked off about some sexually dimorphic, thrush-ass punk getting the name ‘Blackbird’. You’re out there; being portentous, cutting the morning sky like a shard of banished night and alighting upon the shoulder of Death herself. And he’s…what? A jazz flautist!? 🐦⬛🪈😡

The irony of it all it was United States that detonated two atomic weapons. The only country in history of war to have ever done so. But it’s gone to war with countries across Asia and the Middle East claiming that they are a threat and would use nuclear weapons without hesitating, they haven’t
Today 81 years ago 60,000 to 80,000 people were killed by an atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki. On August 6th, 70,000 to 80,000 died with the bombing of Hiroshima. Yesterday, memorial for the victims and all affected, with a PEACE walk to never forget them or what happened those days 81 years ago .
A good opportunity for someone!

What does safety look like? Sound like? Feel like? For people forced to flee, the answer is deeply personal. But the right to seek it is shared. What does safety mean to you?
It’s hard to dispute Piketty’s diagnosis that, having realised that deregulated, laissez faire capitalism has utterly failed to enrich the poor and middle class, the right has turned to identity politic. Easier to give people someone to hate than improve their lives.
I went to Paris to speak to Thomas Piketty - one of the world’s leading thinkers on inequality. We talk about why wealth keeps concentrating at the top, the case for public investment, and what it would take to build a fairer economy. A fascinating conversation. youtu.be/d_83pFubGvQ?...

I see the ideological stupidity at the heart of mainstream journalism has a long tradition
“We prefer to take our chance with cholera than be bullied into health. There is nothing a man hates so much as being cleansed against his will or having his floor swept, his hall whitewashed, his dung heaps cleared away and his thatch forced to give way to slate.” — Extract from The Times in 1852

Universities across the UK are facing so many problems - marketisation, cuts, redundancies etc - why are we so obsessed by Jason Arday? (This is rhetorical; I know why). My @heraldscotland.bsky.social column. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2644807...
Yes, the Jason Arday scandal is fascinating but it plays into the hands of racists

Why the flying feck does every film/TV show have to denote the location of a scene in big block capital letters?
This is why I tend to use “white supremacist” and “hate group” when discussing the Republican Party and white evangelicals; they are accurate terms, they are well understood, and they are (justifiably) as disreputable as Republicans and Christian nationalists ought to be.
It's absolutely true that the GOP is controlled by the Christian nationalist, white nationalist wing, and that capture is at the highest levels of the party, but the phrase "Christian nationalism" often obscures simple points, e.g: they believe only white Christians belong in public life.
Do you want to hazard a guess at what this “jaw-dropping” list of freebies included? What luxuries asylum seekers might be being given “for free” in Thetford? Xboxes? Plasma TVs? iPhones? Ferraris? Let's take a look👀 🧵 1/22
