Two things struck me about this in my admittedly limited 4 hours at the Fair: how persona non-grata the new flag is — even the Fair doesn’t fly it — and how little GOP-coded stuff I saw folks wearing (it was Labor Day so maybe most had gone back home?). Flag is objectively unpopular; GOP too?

If Dazed and Confused was released today, it'd be set in the first year of the Obama administration.

Why does everyone assume that if Klobuchar is elected governor that she'd choose her replacement? I'd assume if she wins, she would resign so she can focus on the transition and Walz would choose the replacement, right? Or did I miss something?

This sure is a...choice, for several reasons. 1) It was built by the city of Appleton at the height of the early 90s prison boom as a economic booster. It was sold to CoreCivic in 1997. It was not built for its practicality; it was built to be provide jobs for the very small, rural town.

Located about 3 hours west of Minneapolis, the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, MN has been named as a potential ICE detention center. The private prison with 1,600 beds has been closed since 2010.

My uni has transitioned to a new IRB system, and I love that instead of automating the process to move current IRBs from the old system to the new system, I got to spend my morning moving each current IRB manually, question by question.

There's a certain category of commentator that is both stupid AND bad faith, so when you read their stuff, you have to judge on a case-by-case basis whether they are being obtuse or evil.

A lot of talk about how great party selection processes are over primaries. Meanwhile, I'm just sitting here thinking about the 12 hours I spent sitting in a MN district convention when @ilhanmn.bsky.social first ran for office challenging a 40+ year incumbent.

Oof I do not like Criminology's new review system for reviewers. Someone thought, "Hey, you know those LORs where you have to write the letter but also answer a bunch of arbitrary ranking drop downs? What if we incorporated that into peer review??" This has to be Wiley's doing, right?

Today we filed our response opposing federal agent Gregory Morgan’s motion to remove his case to federal court. The federal judge could send the case back to state court or hold a hearing. We are prepared for either ruling.

Maybe it's because I come from the sticks of southern MN, but I've never heard anyone say "Totenkopf." I know what the symbol is (and i knew a few performative edgelords who tried to "shock" people by wearing rings or shirts with the symbol),* but I've only ever heard it called a "death's head."

I don't have an opinion about Platner specifically because I haven't been following him or these events. But like 80% of my feed is about how despicable, sadistic, racist, misogynistic, etc he is, and frankly it's unsettling.

Love getting travel reimbursements rejected because I overtipped by $2.70.

This is not just tremendously stupid, but also, Michele Tafoya lost the GOP endorsement to this.
