I’m not sure people appreciate how radical this is. A pro-active process to inform locals when there is a cruise ship health risk. No other port to my knowledge has done this. It is why @portcruisecontrol.bsky.social exists. Never would have happened without @wespelletier.bsky.social ⚓️💙⚓️

Dear municipal, provincial and federal leaders, In case you aren’t taking the #climatecrisis seriously enough because money and power are more important than people and planet. Please look at the big picture, our time is running out. Some say, we’re already too late. #yyj #yyjpoli #bcpoli #cdnpoli

Congratulations to @portcruisecontrol.bsky.social for getting this excellent public health measure put in place! We'd like to see this implemented at all cruise ports.

The 2027 cruise schedule includes 102 cruise ships. 26 days with 2 ships at once. Some days the floating cities will reach almost 10k population. No restriction on fuel. No decrease in air pollution. No elimination of scrubber wash contaminants in Casco Bay. Is this what Portland wants?

A timely post for these days, so fraught with despair. This hits home, w/my experience of the last few weeks of shifting gears and focus. "Sometimes people continue struggling because they believe they can win. Sometimes they continue because they feel a responsibility to the people around them."

I’ve realized that long-term discipline requires a certain level of alignment through rest, quiet, and reassessing our personal intersections of passion, curiosity, capacity, skill, and impact, writes @ericms.bsky.social

this is kind of obvious (bigger machinery more dangerous), but also intentional. Full sized SUVs (and the trucks they're built on) are intentionally designed to look intimidating, because for the rich people buying new ones, the cruelty is the point.

Full-sized SUVs are pedestrian killers. New research finds that they're more than twice as likely to kill or seriously injure a pedestrian than other cars. (Notably, vehicle height—not weight—was the biggest risk factor.) doi.org/10.1016/j.js...
