Dr. Robin Bond, biogeochemist at a PUI 🧪

@diygeochemist.bsky.social

Ace/autistic biracial biogeochemist. I study life + trace metal cycling + reactive oxygen species & teach analytical chem. Also union gal, bookworm, Youtuber, DV survivor w/ PTSD. She/they. My views are my own and not those of my institution.

One day several years ago, I got an anonymous handwritten, threatening letter delivered to my campus mailbox, and then someone (the same person? someone else?) DM'd me on twitter from a burner account, with a photo of my driveway with my car parked in it. This is real and it's dangerous

There are a lot of important things going on. Maybe this isn’t a top twenty concern. But, this is actually workplace harassment, the kind that can get people killed.

This is a well-produced segment. I encourage you to watch so you can hear the noise for yourself. The professor of environmental health science that they interviewed called it an “unprecedented new noise source.”

Neighbors say noise from Michigan data center is 24/7 and upending their lives

One Michigan community has been experiencing the reality of a data center next door for a couple of years now, and they say the sound has changed their lives.

The Stevens campaign's whole insistence that she's more of a Michigander than AES is clearly just racism, especially since the two of them were literally born in the same city.

Just got back from dropping off my ballot. Make sure if you still have your absentee ballot to drop it off and not mail it, as it may not get to your clerk's office in time.

No ICE agents have been killed or seriously injured by vehicles, yet we have multiple videos of ICE agents using their cars as weapons against protesters. ICE can weaponize their vehicles whenever they want, but if someone else even drives *near them* they'll use it as pretext for summary execution.

Homan: "It's only a matter time when you weaponize that two ton vehicle where an officer is not going to be able to react in time and we're burying an ICE officer ... so the vehicle stops are back on"

As I have repeatedly said, I support massive health care reform and single payor would be the most effective form of it, but as one of the many disabled people who would be completely fucked if Medicare (or even Medicaid) replaced my current coverage, I am allowed to point out how badly it sucks.

"AI advice suppressed judgment suspension from 44% to 3%, accuracy from 27% to 9%, while confidence rose from 30% to 76%. People trusted wrong AI answers." Meanwhile, people's attention spans are dropping because of less book-reading and more short video watching. Cool. Everything is cool.

AI advice made people three times less accurate but twice as confident, researchers found

The air is full of smoke, the food is full of parasites, and the water is full of data center bacteria but at least we stopped all that DEI children's cancer research!

I did a tonne of research so you don't have to. I talk about masking, air filtration, and air quality rating systems, & I give concrete suggestions to help you keep yourself and your loved ones safe. If you don't have this information yet, it's time to get educated. Wildfires don't respect borders.
