Friendly neighborhood livestock scientist making your meat better for you and the environment with SCIENCE! Views expressed here 100% my own. Thirtysomething bi trans dude living in sunny QLD. He/him.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

And remember that even if your dog (like Bruce!) came out with only a few scratches, it will have a lasting effect on them—keep their next 48 hours VERY boring (no guests/bbqs / parties/ new dogs or people) and be cautious with dog intros for at least the next month

Last: here is a trainer demonstrating what I mean by a hip grab. This is stage two. If they don’t let go of the other dog/animal in surprise when you grab the hips, you can also lift the hips off the ground like this and walk them back. The dog is too busy going “what the fuck?!?!” to keep attacking

A person in a snowy yard grabbing the hips of a large black and white dog and raising them up

All this is to say, if a dog rushes another dog or a person with an intent to harm, they ABSOLUTELY will do it again. You can pretend they won’t and keep rolling the dice but fam, the house always wins

What I love about this book is that it feels like a guy from a much grittier fantasy series (I have joked to @adamstemple.bsky.social it's a guy from one of his books) wakes up and finds himself in a comedic romance (albeit one with a much higher body count than you'd expect in a romance).

ME: I can’t find a single decent metal cover of Total Eclipse of the Heart. KEVIN: Yeah, they all go power ballad. ME: I’m not asking for a Cookie Monster growl on “turn around, bright eyes” but… ME: No, wait, that’s EXACTLY what I want. That would be awesome.

I alllllmost would give it to Ursula the Sea-Witch except Ariel’s technically a minor signing a legal contract. The hyenas in the Lion King, however, were 100% in the right.

We have a twice a year shot that makes HIV 99.9% preventable. I can’t believe we’ve seen this in my lifetime. And I can’t fucking believe that we’ve erased so, so much of this progress to just be dick swinging, war mongering assholes of the world.

We now have the technology to eliminate HIV and AIDS. But cuts to USAID mean it’s not gonna happen any time soon. My latest. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Our community lost so many of its elders... the very people who battled and paid with their lives to bring us the rights and freedoms we have today... and it's painful for me to witness the disrespect, and even disdain, that the young LGBTQ+ folk have for the elders that remain.

The lack of boomer LGBTQ+ people
isn't because it's "more popular now."
Many were murdered by their peers,
died from government inaction during
the AIDS crisis, committed suicide due
to lack of social supports, or have had
to live in the closet due to their peers'
cruelty.
