Quintessential Trump: In 2025, Trump axed the program to combat New World Screwworm, stating that they had "saved" $1.5 million a year. In 2026, the Trump announces a $1 billion emergency program to combat the Screwworm outbreak. $1 billion would have funded the old program for 667 years.

Sometimes we all need a reminder: When optimism is in short supply When you’re having real trouble believing in a better tomorrow When the despair comes Remember There’s always spite Endure, because those fuckers don’t get to WIN Fuck ‘em Sometimes that helps Sometimes it’s enough

You may laugh, but the Macbeths are a much better role model for a marriage than Romeo and Juliet. They discuss their problems (killing the king of Scotland), share their hobbies (killing the king of Scotland), and resolve their conflicts (by killing the king of Scotland).

one of the greatest human triumphs of my lifetime is the relentless, unceasing, heroic effort by DECADES' worth of doctors and scientists to find a cure for a disease much of the world didn't take seriously for years because it predominantly affected a community they thought kinda deserved it

Just because good news is worth celebrating: There is now a Prep medication that is an *every six month* injection. HIV has, effectively, a vaccination.

Brother Mort liked the peace and solitude of his herb garden but even so a visit from Sister Dot and her latest tranche of dirty jokes rarely went unappreciated

Something people often don't realize when thinking about numbers like "one in 500" is the multiplicity problem. Basically, when there's a low chance of something happening *multiple times*, the chance that it happens *at all* goes up a lot faster than we intuitively feel it should. /1

In real life, one in 500 kids who catches measles will die. And because measles is an asshole, some of them will die six to eight years later, of untreatable, incurable neurological conditions left as a parting gift by the virus.

Here’s what they found: Women are interrupted more often than men—by about 10–20% in economics seminars. Those interruptions are more likely to: - Cut women off mid-sentence - Come from men - Be adversarial rather than clarifying in nature

It's the kind of word that should have lost its charm even for name-calling once one aged out of middle school *in the 1980s* and there is no excuse for it now. To use it as an adult is to put a flashing sign reading "I Am An Asshole With The Mentality Of A 12-Year-Old" on one's back.

If I see you use this word, I'll block you. If you use it "satirically" I'll block you. Using it at all today is a really fine test of character. I've had some of my books edited because I used it twenty years ago and I'm ashamed today of having used it. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/26/u...

They really are dropping any pretense that ICE is about immigration. Once you're saying ICE has absolute power over not only undocumented people but anyone they engage, you're openly admitting these are meant to be shock troops for the mad king

When an ICE agent confronts you is "when your due process ends," says the member of Congress from the largest border district. www.politico.com/news/2026/01...

“Training’s not going to fix this,” said Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas). “This is really going to be a deescalation of people thinking they can harm agents or get away or evade. It has to be a point where people understand when they’re being confronted by an ICE agent, that’s at the end of the road. That’s not the beginning of the due process, it’s the end of the due process.”

It's official. The US has left the World Health Organization as of today. I don't know when or how or where, but I can guarantee that mathematically the infectious diseases of the world will not stop at national borders and they will cause millions more deaths when the world does not cooperate.

This, right here 🎯💯. I’ve been trying to communicate this to people, as a native 🇨🇦, for a year now. Again, the fact that this wasn’t immediately seen as a presidency-ending, beyond-the-pale thing for all 535 Congresspeople, the media, & the public is deeply ugly & shameful for us as a country.
