The UK is considering a policy that would effectively segregate trans people from society. It would bar trans people from "single sex spaces" even when they use the facility of their sex assigned at birth. This is a full on policy of segregation without even the benefit of separate facilities.

Update: The State Department has once again changed the language back to saying transgender people's passports will be valid "until they are invalidated pursuant to federal regulations."

Many people dismissed the announcement Catholic hospitals will ban gender-affirming care nationwide under the assumption that there will be other options. In reality, Catholic hospitals make up as much 46% of options in some states. This map is 2020, prior to Trump’s assault on safety net hospitals.

Gift link to M Gessen (always a smart read) on passports as social control. One detail that gets forgotten: US passports only introduced a gender marker in 1976 in response to “unisex” styles. 1976!!!!!

Gentle reminder that the idea that SCOTUS and appellate judges can only follow what the law is and not what the law should be is conservative propaganda from the 1970s and 1980s created by the Federalist Society in response to the civil rights decisions of the Warren Court.

Saw a news report yesterday about children as young as 9 being given weight loss jabs on the NHS, and I think it shows just how utterly bullshit the “lack of research into long term impacts” excuse for banning puberty blockers for trans kids really was. It’s purely ideological.

If they eliminate the filibuster, it means national bans on gender affirming care, bathroom bans, a sports ban, gender marker bans, elimination of legal recognition etc. It will make life unlivable for trans people in the US, even in blue states. It's a worst case scenario.

The Senate has just passed the military NDAA containing 2 anti-trans provisions: a surgery ban using federal funds (dependents too), and a sports ban on military academy spaces. This will be the STARTING point for negotiations with the House, which has even worse provisions. Only 20 Dems opposed.
