The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted. What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards. Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.

I was looking up the history of SGLT2 inhibitors and found this article on “phlorizinized men” and saw the first paragraph included “this evidence is direct and unequivocal in the case of the aglomerular fish” which made me double check the authors and sure enough there was Homer W. Smith
