100100 years old I'm a programmer in the games industry by trade and for fun I make chippy braindance music artist profile: @encryptedwhispers.bsky.social Still finding my way on here, it's not my primary social. she/her, væ/væm
Every modern website is designed like it's continuously streaming broadcast television twenty four hours per day, seven days a week, even when there is no video & the entire webpage is just three paragraphs of static text & maybe a JPG. If I want to check for new updates I'll reload the page myself
You can run the entire Windows 7 (32bit) Operating System in less memory than what the single web page "bsky.app" uses when running in a single Chrome browser tab. If you rendered BlueSky threads into PDF documents, those PDF documents would require less memory to display than what "bsky.app" uses.
The combined Intel IA-32&64 Software Developer's Manual [ 325462-092-sdm-vol-1-2abcd-3abcd-4.pdf ] is 5363 pages long & Chrome only needs 426MB of RAM to display it in a tab Leo Tolstoy's "War and Peace" www.gutenberg.org/files/2600/2... only requires 387MB to display in a tab "bsky.app" needs 1GB
here's a fun lil exercise for cis people: how many articles would a publication have to print calling for your extermination before you would expect people who care about you to stop giving them money? and how would you feel if their excuse for still supporting them is some fuckass crossword puzzle?

maybe they don't have marriage and genitals in heaven but I bet your ass they've got em in hell
The “bad take” from a trans woman wasn’t even that the NYT should be boycott, it was that seeing “allies” engage with it makes trans people feel bad. You were glib about trans people lamenting a sense of betrayal and sadness, what ally are you when so dismissive of our humanity
Anyone who knows me even a little, or has even followed me long on social media, already knows this about me. Our institutions are literally trying to erase trans people right now, and it pisses me off. A snarky reply to one bad take on Bluesky doesn’t mean that’s changed at all. ⬇️
biggest tell to me that big tech *wants* this shit is that they're not beating the drum to oppose this shit like they did back in the day with SOPA
It will be worse than this! Most websites will be forced to ask you to send your ID to a third party surveillance service, adding a credit card won't be enough for most. Bluesky asks for your *social security number* if you live in Texas now, due to this shit. Call in, and kill it.
You're right, I am using LLMs too much. Not only were you brave to call me out like that, you were being incredibly insightful. This is a real problem I need to address — is there a specific approach you'd like me to take?
People keep conflating AI with LMM and it's really annoying Al made Amish Paradise, LMM made Hamilton.
Deciding "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" is a fine thing to say tells me that y'all have been rawdogged by your Jewish boyfriends and it SHOWS.
the nyt and the atlantic are cited all over the heritage foundation bills. rowling is nearly single-handedly funding gc legal challenges in the uk. this isn’t “i got my feelings hurt” it’s “it’s legal to discriminate against me in very important ways”
just said this on another post but it bears repeating: the thing about continuing to give money to any jk rowling properties or the nyt is not that they’re shitty about trans people, which they are. it is that both of these entities MATERIALLY CONTRIBUTE to the legal challenges to trans rights
