the entirety of U.S. telecom history involves dems taking 20 years to implement basic consumer protections only for them to be immediately destroyed by a broad coalition of Republicans, telecom monopolies, and "free market" libertarian think tank guys telling you how wonderful this will all be

ISPs' long nightmare of having to list all the fees they charge is finally over

FCC lets ISPs stop listing all fees after companies complained it was too hard.

Kind of wild that tennis is the one pro sport that's had a policy allowing trans women to compete for 50 years. In that span, 1 trans athlete has competed (50 years ago), and 0 since. Instead of just changing the policy to ban trans women, they decided to go the extra step of mandating DNA tests?

Report: WTA to mandate genetic gender test

The Women's Tennis Association has changed its eligibility policy and will require athletes to submit to a one-time genetic gender test to establish eligibility, the organization revealed early this ...

“China is going to beat us on AI and that’s a national security problem” and “we gotta stop letting foreign students study in the United States” are two beliefs that some people are capable of holding simultaneously, isn’t that incredible?

If you don't care about doing alt text for folks who are disabled and folks who need accomodations, at least do it for when this website is broken. If you're going around right now not seeing pictures, read the alt text and you should be able to understand what's going on, if they did a good job.

I've got to say that I'm really disappointed in the recent discourse surrounding the RCP8.5 scenario. The lack of context and understanding is something I expected from the usual suspects, but it's frustrating to see such bad takes from people and outlets who should know better.

A friend asks: “Has it occurred to anyone that the MAGAs think you have to show IDs at restaurants because they’ve been eating all their meals at strip clubs? This isn’t even an unreasonable theory”

Blanche: "There's a lot of things we can be doing, like voter ID. Every time you walk into a restaurant you have to show ID. How about you have to show your idea to vote? That's not anything that's crazy."

I'll say it again, one of the worst things this rampant push to cram "generative AI" into everything has done is make people suspect bright kids of cheating when they're just nerdy or bookish or neurodivergent, sanding down their unique edges to fit into people's lowered, homogenized expectations.

The child’s mom, a university professor, “suspects her daughter was flagged by the teacher’s AI detection tools because she used terms such as ‘the titular character.’”

The Supreme Court did not strike down conversion therapy bans today. Not nationwide. Not in Colorado. Not anywhere. Here's what actually happened in Chiles v. Salazar—and why the coverage you're seeing serves the conservative legal movement more than it serves you.

Stephen Miller complaining about the UK finally eliminating heredity nobility from their legislature is a perfect encapsulation of how perverse it is to have these people in charge during the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Less than two days left! I'd love to see it get to $15,000 by tomorrow. It would be a spark of hope in a terrible moment. (please please scroll down & select "adjust donation." V important.)

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) would force social media platforms to filter and suppress content that the Trump admin is willing to argue makes kids "depressed" or "anxious." Videos of ICE murdering people make me pretty depressed and anxious, and I'm a grown ass adult. See where this is going?

And when she was just on the cusp of understanding this, I said, now imagine they sold that information about you to anyone who wanted it, so that there would be people out there able to manipulate you whom you've never even met. And now you're not the trainer, you're the dog. Now she gets it.
