Active transportation, bikes, coffee, military history.

I REALLY REALLY dislike that I started reading Annie Jacobsen's "Biological War" on Saturday. A leak of weaponized pneumonic plague from a Russian lab is literally how the book starts. (As an aside, the book itself is not nearly as good as her preceeding "Nuclear War") www.cnn.com/2026/10/04/e...

Right, okay everybody, I’ve had a lot of meetings and talks this week and I have to share some top line thoughts. Things are quite a bit worse than i am usually willing to share with people because panic does no good. It’s kinda bad. The baddies have the wind at their back. No denying that.

Comparing the 1995/2026 SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. Movies used to be in color. We have lost something forever by moving to digital filmmaking and lighting. Instead of structured images, everything is an ugly soup. Anything shot before 2000 looks better than something today. I miss *seeing* a movie.

Pathetic. We had an opportunity to chart a new course for our society, our environment, our economy. But Carney’s unimaginative vision chains us to pipelines, military spending and endless resource extraction, and the investor class stripping the copper from the walls of our public infrastructure.

Government to open up Canada's 4 largest airports to private investment, Carney says | CBC News

Prime Minister Mark Carney says his government will open up Canada's four largest airports to private investment, but that Ottawa will maintain ultimate ownership.

I cannot tell you what absolute fiction this is. AI is heading for a crash and this cackhanded Terminator narrative is being engineered to save them. The fact that the unsubstantiated testimony of a former employee has been the top story on BBC News all day is absurd and irresponsible.

In uni I was always laughing at the dozens of cringey/awkward flyers for all of Ottawa shawarma joints that ended up circulating on campus. My god I yearn for those days. Give me your Comic sans daycare posters, your typo-ridden Greek takeout ads. It’s all downright charming next to this vile shit.

The death of folk graphic design in favor of AI slop across our country's delis is leading to some incredibly Lovecraftian food horrors

17 years married today at the close of an absolutely nightmarish week where every single person got the toddler’s stomach flu. Feels particularly apt. There are ups and downs in any marriage, but there’s no one else I’d navigate the horrors of the last six days with. Love you, @dvn.bsky.social.
