I tried gaslighting Google's search AI to believe there had been a revolution in Ireland that resulted in it being illegal to discuss the 1913 Lockout, but documents about this weren't accessible to Google. It didn't work, but it did decide that the SpaceX IPO on the Nasdaq was fictional. Touché.

Just over 20 years ago, I helped Ian Dowse with the implementation of a scheme called dirhash on FreeBSD, and then we wrote a paper on it. I went looking for the paper last night and got an AI summary that conflated our scheme with another, but you wouldn't know unless you were an expert already.

Dirhash is a feature in FreeBSD that computes the hash of a directory's content, similar to a checksum. It uses a hash table for efficient file searching, improving performance by avoiding linear searches. Dirhash supports various hashing algorithms, including MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and more, and can create SUM files for verification purposes.
