Mamdani is a generational leader
Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal.
Being underplayed has been a near constant with my time with being a game dev in the uk. I was on 17k a year for my first 3 years and even after being promoted not getting a pay bump cos “title does not reflect pay in this industry” according to my boss at the time.
Gamedevs are so chronically underpaid that I spoke with someone yesterday celebrating getting a €5,000 grant to make a game in three months, split two ways, of course 🥲
Escorting the nine-year-old to a friend’s birthday pool party, I told him I wasn’t going to swim in part because I’m dressed for work. He told me I could just jump in like Mamdani did. This is what socialism does to our children.

There was some strange system where they all got their food and shelter and education and medical for free, no matter what job they did.

This is one of my all time favorite talks: www.ted.com/talks/erin_m... "If you love a word, use it! That makes it real!" is a thing I tell people on a surprisingly regular basis
The joy of lexicography
Is the beloved paper dictionary doomed to extinction? In this infectiously exuberant talk, leading lexicographer Erin McKean looks at the many ways today's print dictionary is poised for transformatio...

Anything can be a word and nobody can stop you
Make it exist (left) , make it better (right). Went straight to painting with only an idea...then did a sketch on iPad to further visualize where I wanted to go with it. Makes these little paintings refreshing to work with and any painting goobers can be corrected now that I have a plan lol. Wip
Is the Smithsonian on bluesky? We're going to need another museum (of horses).
Seeing as how the only horse I can draw is a stick horse (example pictured), I did my best front-facing version
HORSE BY ARTIST SAYING NOT THEIR BEST THAT IS BETTER THAN ANY HORSE WE'VE EVER DRAWN OR WILL EVER DRAW
Probably not my best but on short notice
Some others I can tell are drawings if I looked hard enough, this one... though. Damn near flawless. The little scratches everywhere really do so much work
Along with the assassin bug and dead leaf mantis, this is probably one of my most detailed drawings...
I do think it’s easy to fall into the trap of acting a way with art that it’s somehow ment to be a constant up hill struggle cos that story travels better then someone just having fun and enjoying it and can make it feel like it’s how it should be by default. It can be but also can be just dull.
This is an outstanding thread of neat looking indie games! And, since it's not linked in the thread itself, gotta give a shout out to the new Bithell announcement too :) store.steampowered.com/app/4035190/... The two Circular games are really fantastic too!

Getting a lot of eyeballs at the moment, so, if you’ve also announced an indie game recently, reply here and show off your wares with a trailer. If you’re reading this later, go checkout these games and get them wishlisted (you know, just like you’ve already wishlisted Vampirium: 1997)
I had fun with the little photo shoot and now just need to make more to expand the set and see what I come up with. #woodworking
I have never been so sure time travelers exist than this quote and knowing he worked with Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (who invented sci-fi).
The founder we should talk more about is Thomas Paine, who will fuck your shit up every time. Here he is in The Rights of Man just ripping into any ideas of "originalism" and that kind of garbage.
The local grocery chain here in RI/MA had a local artist paint its Fourth of July flyer, and I think in a world of AI slop, stuff like this is awesome. Happy fourth!
I was trying to make this case to folks the other night. What a gift to see every team with a diasporic rooting section.
This is the best of who we are and what we represent. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Lots of folks mentioning games with fairly major companies behind them, but damn if there weren't so many smaller indie/solo dev games that were labors of love that just... boof. I hope there's an archive of the android APKs somewhere like DOS games that we'll one day be able to revive
If you're curious what a non-preservationist gaming ecosystem looks like, you can look at the mobile stores, where most of the shit you remember does not exist in any form anymore.
I love noticing little moments of symmetry as I travel on the London Underground network. I spotted this perfect alignment at Whitechapel station.
We've reinvented compiling but made it incredibly stupid.
