somehow the universe has conspired to ensure lindsey graham's perpetual humiliation extends beyond the grave
Hey, so I'm in dialogue with a (the?) PR manager for Waymo and he's offered to pull logs for particular vehicles that people saw doing questionable things. Give me dates, times, and locations and I'll ask.
It's wild how much of Anthropic's marketing, taken at face value, is reasons to stay far away from their IPO. If this story is true (big if), then they're admitting their model is easy to distribute and run on commodity hardware, and they have no hope of maintaining exclusivity.
AI models may soon self-replicate without access to data centers, Anthropic warns reut.rs/4dUgiXd
Poor startups that bought .ai domains to find they need .si domains
ChatGPT is adding the signatures of real New Yorker cartoonists to its AI-generated images. So far, I've found the signatures of more than 15 contributors. "It’s slop, and unlike the other slop that I’ve encountered, this is slop that’s pretending to be me." www.niemanlab.org/2026/10/chat...

"The unwillingness of platforms to accept even paid advertising is sure to raise concerns about free speech and the dwindling number of companies that control many of the platforms in this country — and ironically provide a proof-text for the point the film is coming to make." Sci-fi had warned us.
The Major Social Media Platforms Are All Rejecting Paid Ads for Alex Gibney’s ‘Musk’ (Exclusive)
YouTube, TikTok and Meta have all turned down the trailer for the Oct. 9 doc, citing “political” content. X won't even take Bleecker Street's calls. The distributor is appealing.

Maybe the one thing standing between Britain and fascism right now is how geriatric many of the fascists are
The thing that gets me about this scene is how old the assailants are. The woman pulling her hair and the man hitting her with a stick must be 70 plus.
JK Rowling needs a password manager like 1Password because she can't handle complex characters
They had to lead with that because it’s the only way to justify their trillion-dollar capex. The actually-useful things LLMs can do are all either enhancing (without replacing) experts or replacing extremely low-dollar work, neither of which provide the growth story SV needs to tell investors.
8) SV has really screwed up a number of marketing-related things lately, AI chief among them. They don’t appear to have even been correct about it slashing headcount, but what a world-historic idiot thing to lead with anyway.
Philosophers often bring up the "principle of charity": a willingness to assume good faith in an interlocutor and treat them accordingly. It's good to do in many circumstances. But it is worth formulating a principle of not being a fucking mark. If not during the rise of fascism, then when? 12/
this is the kind of obstreperousness, don't tell me what to do-ness, i got rightsness that is the sheet anchor of American liberties.

I've had the chance to ask several scientists in relevant fields variants of the "would you have gone to Jurassic Park" question and so far no one has ever said "No"
the most realistic scene in Jurassic Park is when two scientists make a questionable decision — traveling to an undisclosed location with a strange man — on the promise of three years of modest funding
Surely a public company that hires an actual fugitive as their chief medical officer is going to get sued by their shareholders for gross negligence, no? www.bostonglobe.com/2026/07/20/b...

I really want to know the thought process that leads to hiring Marc Andreesen as your objective voice on the economic impact of new technology. https://techhub.social/@Techmeme/116891972622812514

Saw an ad for a consumer product I was actually interested in. But their website prominently features the logos of a bunch of tech and VC brands. Fuck no, I’m not going to buy durable consumer hardware from the guys who can’t focus on one thing for more than a year.
Happy “liberal arts professor helps save the Union” day to all who celebrate
The thing about social media age restrictions is that it treats today’s internet as an inevitability we all just have to deal with. The internet (and the WORLD) wasn’t like this until like four dudes were allowed to own & monetize as much tech real estate as they wanted. Fix THAT problem.
Me at the A24 board meeting: We’ve got a brand beloved by young hip people and cinefiles, basically synonymous with “good taste” and “artistic vision,” in a time where both are hard to come by. What if we flushed that in the fucking toilet for a bit of money?
A24 is collaborating with Google DeepMind as AI companies are deepening their ties to Hollywood—and struggling with a crisis of taste. We asked the studio about the backlash: www.wired.com/story/a24-kn...
If Popehat is permanently banned because of this post, I’m genuinely concerned about the viability of this platform. Hopefully, someone like @masnick.com knows more about what’s happening and whether this is just a temporary suspension
Banning Popehat was a profoundly stupid move by Bluesky. Moderation is a very difficult job at this kind of scale, and I tend to grant lots of leeway for that reason. But this move was simply indefensible.
It's very revealing of a number of things. 1) Are you the only real person who exists? 2) Can you be moderately inconvenienced for 15 seconds without losing your temper? 3) Does might always make right? If the answer is yes to any of those, whoops, you're a right winger!
Opinions on bikers is indeed a very good canary in the coal mine for determining if someone sucks when it might not otherwise be apparent yet.
