Actually sad what AI has done to the world of souvenir fridge magnets, postcards, etc. It's kind of microcosmic of the whole issue: the people in charge of fridge magnets don't seem to care that fridge magnets actually matter to people who collect fridge magnets.

As I keep saying: there is a class of people who have absolutely radicalised themselves to very extreme political positions, completely taken leave of their senses. And we know about this because they write about it for a living, they can’t wait to tell us all about their new epiphanies.

So on the asylum brochure debate someone posted something genuinely interesting. And apologies, I just lost your post so can't credit.
They said we should restrict asylum to women and children. And I think there's potentially something in that.

I am becoming incredibly exhausted of this pattern: many people: "AI sucks!" Very Smart Person: ah but have you considered (distinct application of ML or statistical modeling that has no real relationship to what the tech industry is marketing as, and people broadly perceive as, "AI")

apropos of nothing, here's a terrific feature about a meaningful, life-saving use of artificial intelligence, which I have been thinking about for over a year. it's just extremely stupid to say that AI has zero benefits even if you don't think it should be used in writing (which I don't)!

In case you don't believe me, here's the first three minutes (not counting opening titles) of the DRIVING MISS DAISY sitcom pilot, starring Robert Guillaume, Joan Plowright, and Saul Rubinek in the Freeman / Tandy / Aykroyd roles

Emily went to Israel and got furiously screamed at by their parliamentarians on camera, for the same “being Hamas” reasons they scream abuse at everyone else. There’s your “two-state solution”, right there: fuck you, it’s all ours and we’ll do whatever we want to the current occupants. Fuck off.
