On the plus side, I’m casually on the market and not limiting myself to academia. Interested in having someone with my knowledge and skills on your team?
the quiet part

saying the quiet part out loud because I know someone has to I’m rubber, you’re glue. solved your problem! use row 2.
Ever been recruited away from a tenured position on the promise of same by a place that, upon your arrival, refused to provide the basic conditions required for you to actually do your job, leaving you no choice but to resign after a year? ~haha me neither~
Holding the dialectics of: people need opportunities to discuss systemic/structural trauma in ways that *feel* safe, we will never *be* safe until we acknowledge systemic trauma directly, and Jiminy Christmas, we’re supposed to be a health science. How did we let ::gestures vaguely:: happen?
Respectfully requesting that the academics who do, in fact, know better consider whether they might stand to benefit from the development of vertebrae. I know you’re traumatized. We’re all traumatized. That’s the problem. I’m not wasting my flexibility on doing gymnastics to pretend that it isn’t.
And then sometimes I remember her rhyming “sweater“ with “weather” in the Lavender Haze sequel and I’m like, you know what? Maybe the whole queer situation isn’t a load-bearing barrier to discussion after all.
We have access to a powerful and simple cure: telling the truth instead of gaslighting. But a billionaire says you can’t have the truth, because it would mean she would have to come out as queer. Ask me exactly how much I think that matters compared to the health and safety of millions of people.
Friendly reminder that my playlist is not AI, government, evidence-based practice, or generalizable beyond me and people very similar to me. I also hear and acknowledge feedback that I am worrying about ::gestures vaguely:: too much and not enough and just right.

Thrilled to announce that I’ve been appointed Dean of Social Media and the Letter S at the University of What It Is. First act of business: What *is* the letter S? Discuss. C, as previously established, is for cookie. And Covid. All requests for approvals to discuss other letters are pending.
I have outrageous privilege in this situation. I know that. I’m not thrilled to concede to academic politics given the desperate necessity of these discussions, but I have the benefit of being able to not only make principled decisions in line with my values, but to do so comfortably.

I would strongly prefer to not be dead. If I have to be metaphorically dead for the benefit of the sovereignty of Canada or something, so be it. I’ll move home and open a bookstore.

"don't you care about fairness in sports?" No actually, I don't. Nobody does
Failing to convince myself that what I experienced was normal and how I reacted was weird is, I’m pretty sure, the reason I don’t get doors held open for me at the psychologists’ club.
I don’t like posting this stuff, because what usually happens is that even the most courageous women get real quiet and the most problematic men get louder. But the alternative is letting folks with stories like mine believe they’re alone in understanding what happened to them and why.

And those are just the physical scars. I used to be a meek, overeager people-pleaser. My whole life, childhood through my late 20s. Then my academic #metoo happened. Quiet torture. Then I started talking about systemic coverup, resulting in overt torture. And I’m supposed to pathologize discomfort.

📍 TW: medical trauma 📍 This is one long scar, by the way. A scar the length of my entire abdomen. There was nothing wrong. I had no illness, no bleeding, nothing. They just decided to cut me open.

When Taylor Swift said, “it’ll leave you breathless or with a nasty scar,” she was not joking!
(There are some would love to assure you they’ve found the magic workaround, the very secret evidence-based way of doing exposure therapy that doesn’t require you to actually talk about the fear or collaboratively plan the exposures. They have not.)
I would love to tell you that I alone hold the key to evidence-based treatment for systemic trauma, but I don’t. The key doesn’t exist. I am not *permitted* to connect the sometimes bizarre adversities I experience to things men post online. Clin psych, there’s no ahem-ing our way around this one.
