NYT is always "progressives should abandon their principles! Sell out! Sell out! SELL OUT!" This is something you will constantly find at the NYT, a piece dressed up as a news article that is editorializing frantically for a political position, not neutrally presenting the facts.

Yes, I use dashes. Yes, I use the Oxford comma. Yes, I sometimes say: “Not… but.” Fuck anyone who thinks those things belong to AI. Who did you think they were stolen from in the first place?
…Removing your own stylistic cues & voice for fear they make you "sound like AI" is a sure-fire way to make your work bland & lifeless, to say nothing of what it's gonna do to you psychologically, emotionally, & hermeneutically. Develop your voice, & write how you fucking well want to goddam write.

It comes across clearly how very much I enjoyed this long and expansive chat with @martindoyle.bsky.social

"No matter how you feel about ketamine, its use is growing more widespread and it's important that educators understand how they could integrate it as a tool in their classrooms"
These people have a funny way of saying "Environmentalists have been proved right yet again."
Looking forward to this tonight, all welcome
Our next #GillerBookClub will take place on February 3 at 7 p.m. ET. Lynn Coady will be in conversation with Emma Donoghue about her 2025 #GillerPrize shortlisted novel, THE PARIS EXPRESS. Please register to attend here: us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi... #CravingCanLit #CanLit #canadianliterature
A new Times video analysis breaks down the flawed and lethal actions by federal agents in the killing of Alex Pretti. Watch here.
Video: New Video Analysis Reveals Flawed and Fatal Decisions in Shooting of Pretti
A frame-by-frame assessment of actions by Alex Pretti and the two officers who fired 10 times shows how lethal force came to be used against a target who didn’t pose a threat.

Labour is bringing back inequality in more and more inventive ways. (Also, "fewer")
the invaluable @emmadarwinwriter.bsky.social explains the nuts and bolts of writing that many of us who've been working with those nuts and bolts all our lives have never understood (or maybe it's jut me)
Quick heads up that I've taken down the paywall on my Itch of Writing post about which way round speech tags might go. It's usually a supporters-only post, but it's in use in our current Self-Editing course, so I thought others might find it useful: buff.ly/Jj9Ehgf

Back in Dublin to celebrate the launch of The Correction of Taste, and learning yet another lesson from my beloved dad: death is no reason to stop publishing.

I so enjoyed this erudite and immersive response to #TheParisExpress.
Did you catch the Michael Greenstein review of the new Emma Donoghue novel, THE PARIS EXPRESS? “More than a day trip, the novel explores fin-de-siècle culture and politics, the passage of time itself...” www.theseaboardreview.ca/p/train-and-...
Oh hey, NYT, is it men they want barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen? So hard to determine.....
Flawless script, #TheBalladofWallisIsland made me laugh and cry simultaneously for an hour and a half
The Ballad of Wallis Island is also a masterclass in small, yet deeply effective, filmmaking. It is a must see for screenwriters and filmmakers working the low-budget space. Limited cast and locations, the filmmakers maximize everything. A triumph in every respect. #filmmaking #screenwriting
Okay, here is why I HATE AI. I'm trying to research poems about going into space, or famous quotes about escaping gravity. As the FIRST RESULT, Google gives me this SHITTY poem IT'S WRITTEN ITSELF, like it's fucking Adrian Mole and I'm John Tydeman at the BBC. HATE HATE HATE.
I am one of the authors whom Meta stole (sorry, ‘scraped’) from, by using their books to train Libgen. So I’m biased. But this from @mscaitlinmoran.bsky.social is👌

Remember that a character saying something is not exactly the author saying it. It’s always bothered me when a character quote is posted like an interview quote. Uh, that was Satan, not Milton.

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!

If they won't put it in writing yourself. Send an email (bcc yourself?): "Following our conversation on x date at x time regarding x, I am writing to clarify your directives. According to my notes, you instructed me to A, B, and C. If any of this is incorrect, please advise. I have some concerns."
