I watched the Cambridge Chancellor's announcement about their review and investigation and I guess, with frustration, I see that it's clear that they won't investigate the way academic spaces, especially elite ones, target, harm, and keep out Black *communities* -- not just Black academics.

When people die and the media says they had “pre-existing conditions”… they’re pacifying the public. Anyone could die from Cyclosporiasis, but they want you to believe it can’t happen to you. It can only happen to the weak, the disabled, the elderly. The expendable people. Eugenics.

Paralysis in public health and policy: when evidence becomes an alibi Habib Benzian, Matthew P Fox, Sudeshni Naidoo Public health operates in an era of unprecedented data availability and analytical sophistication, yet action on wellestablished health challenges is frequently delayed. We argue that evidence increasingly functions as an alibi—a means of legitimising deferral of decisions and displacing responsibility onto uncertainty rather than being a guide for decision making. Drawing on recent policy experience, we discuss how expanding evidence requirements can generate analysis paralysis, privileging refinement over implementation. We argue that many contemporary health challenges require timely action under imperfect knowledge and that public health systems should be designed to act, learn, and adapt, rather than wait for unattainable certainty.Together, these dynamics help explain how what began as a movement towards evidence-based policy has, in some contexts, drifted into evidence-dependent policy, where decisions are authorised only once uncertainty has been reduced or eliminated entirely. However, health systems do not operate in controlled environments, but under uncertainty with imperfect information and competing political, social, and economic pressures, making delay safer than action.In such contexts, inaction can be justified not only by the absence of evidence, but also by its abundance. Responsibility of inaction is displaced from decision makers onto uncertainty itself, allowing delay to appear methodologically compelled rather than politically chosen. Producing uncertainty This uncertainty is not merely an unintended by-product of complexity but is actively produced. A substantial body of work on the commercial and political determinants of health shows how powerful actors strategically cultivate doubt, contest evidentiary standards, and emphasise scientific complexity to delay regulation or preserve the status quo.4,5 In such contexts, expanding demands for evidence do not reflect caution or epistemic humility, they function as tools of obstruction. Analysis paralysis can then be manufactured rather than be incidental, with uncertainty serving not as a constraint on action, but as a resource in political and commercial struggle.

This is medical care, so a failure rate of, like, 3% would still be unacceptable and run the risk of getting people killed, but a failure rate of *seventeen out of 20* (85%) is absolutely fucking outrageous. Ford's government should be excoriated for this but also *what the fuck are we doing here*

The auditor general also examined “AI Scribe,” the AI note-taking software available through government-approved vendors for use by healthcare professionals to summarize patient visits. In testing, nine of 20 approved systems fabricated information and suggested treatments that were never discussed. Twelve recorded the wrong medication, and 17 missed important mental health details.

A big reason I pushed for us to do a week's worth of stories on B.C. Ferries is that after travelling the world, I realized there's nothing quite like it in terms of diversity of routes, being fully government owned, number of passengers, and expectations for hourly service in so many places.
