This week I have seen both the prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex on comedy podcasts with sportspeople and the actual Queen using a usb powered handheld fan and I can't help but feel that modernity/relatability might kill the monarchy before anything else

Academia is classic game and metagame. The ‘game’ is acquiring skills and knowle by dge so you can produce a paper , the metagame is ‘producing a paper’ and that’s all you’re marked on, hence cheating and shortcutting that means you win the metagame while opting out of the game.

The thing is, 95% bullshitting a paper is actually doing most of the important skills development work of writing a paper . "The point of writing a paper is to have a good final product" is something believed by people who paid others to write their papers but somehow they run universities now

What I've learned from my day at Wimbledon is the posh boys have learned about moustaches and as a result the "minor official in the British imperial government in Myanmar" look is very much back

[To the tune of 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' by The Beach Boys] 🎵Wouldn't it be nice 🎵To eat a Minion 🎵Holding up a towel to hide from god 🎵And wouldn't it be nice 🎵Though quite forbidden 🎵Savouring the yellow flesh of Bob

I utterly adore the fresco of a fountain that was revealed in recent excavations in #Oplontis (room of the peacocks). The three spouts fixed on the wall each with a jet of water filling the marble basin which is supported on those beautiful curved legs. It silently creates an air of fresh coolness.

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.

I am lucky enough to have six nephews aged between 4 and 24 and today three of them were at an anti fascist rally and a fourth was running an inclusive event for young immigrants. I genuinely think that the kids are alright.

I do think a lot of English-based analysis of what happened in Northern Ireland last night is missing the specifically loyalist aspect of the violence. These are groups with a long history of violently driving out "outsiders", turning their sights on a new vulnerable minority.
