Folk not using headphones on trains remain the absolute worst

Postdoc in the Kulathu lab at the MRC PPU. Bright Clubber. Runner. Goes on trains a lot. General purpose nerd. Views own, and probably rubbish.
Nothing says "We care about the #CommonwealthGames" like sticking it on Channel 5.

As we kick off the Round of 32, I give you what these matchups are really about: 1. Canada 🇨🇦 vs. South Africa 🇿🇦 - Battle of the Commonwealth nations 2. Brazil 🇧🇷 vs. Japan 🇯🇵 - Battle of the Portuguese Jesuit "colonies" 3. Germany 🇩🇪 vs. Paraguay 🇵🇾 - Battle of *chuckles nervously* (1/x)
A lot of people don't realise this but in the UK we have to replace our Prime Minister every two or three years or else the rights revert back to Marvel
In accordance with ancient tradition, our next Prime Minister is announced to the nation while standing between a furry and a man with a bin on his head.
This is a ridiculous paper in the category of "computational bestiary" but Fig. 1 is wonderful: fcampelo.github.io/EC-Bestiary/
A very happy Scottish bank holiday Monday to all except Susanna Reid. ♥️
Delighted that this is now out in its final form! 🥳 It's a fun story about an EF hand that doesn't bind Ca2+, but instead works as a ubiquitin-binding domain. Huge thanks to the rest of YK lab, the @mrcppu.bsky.social, and our collaborators (@sebastianglatt.bsky.social)!
Lee Armstrong, Yogesh Kulathu @kulathu.bsky.social and co-workers show that MINDY3's EF-hand domain is a novel #ubiquitin binding domain. It not only enables chain-length-dependent deubiquitination but also binds to DNA repair factors RAD23A/B. -> link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Thermo Fisher now has a page up in response to our observations. They flatly deny that images were manipulated or fabricated while repeating that images were "optimized for presentation and clarity on the website", no lie, six times. www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/l...

The Thermo Fisher situation keeps getting worse. We've now collected 450+ problematic images presented as verification data in TF's antibody catalog. This includes: 🖌️ Dozens more images with duplications or painting 🖨️ Hundreds of blots that all share the same background (behold slideshow below)

Mammalian gene naming conventions and the potential for this kind of mistaken identity have long been a pet hate of mine. There will definitely be other examples of this out there.
Today I'm posting a new blog about an astonishing scientific own goal. Hundreds of papers have reported using a totally wrong antibody to investigate the tumor suppressor p16. This mistake has happened because scientists have muddled the names of two proteins. forbetterscience.com/2026/06/02/m...
Popped in past my parents' last night just in time to spot this guy angling for a takeaway from the bird feeder
I wish whoever decided to stick picture-in-picture ads into the ITV #SixNations coverage during play nothing but the worst

It was so bright leaving for work this morning I actually thought I'd massively slept in
After a brief memorial, laz lit the cigarette at 6:00am. The 2026 Barkley Marathons has begun. #BM100

SAVE THE DATE! The EMBO workshop "Ubiquitin and Ubiquitin-like proteins in Health and Disease" will be on September 2026. Exciting line up of talks and an amazing location! Organised by @kulathu.bsky.social, @merbllab.bsky.social, @simonapolo.bsky.social, Claudio Joazeiro. Registration open soon.
This was a proper wee surprise. Wasn't on the radar at all. Very fun, and it did more to get me invested in this bunch of idiots in 10 hours than some other games are doing in 60. Second season, when?

TFW the only thing you paid attention to in biology class was “the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell”
wtf is this nonsense? He thinks he can understand kid’s “mitochondrial challenges” just by looking at them? This is an insane person.

New entry for coolest pint glass I own. 😎 Super happy to have been involved with what was a cracking set of talks on day 2 in Dundee. #pint25
Hot off the (Portland) press, @kulathu.bsky.social and I wrote a review on branched #ubiquitin and the tools and strategies out there for studying it.
