hey @happyview.dev i'm sorry to break it to you, but there's a new fastest appview in town... indexing all `community.lexicon.calendar.event` and `community.lexicon.calendar.rsvp` records a whooping 3.4% faster (and with 13 records more)

I think it’s cool if you want to make a selling point of your app is atproto. I also think it’s cool if you rather brush past that. I’d imagine for a lot of devs the apps are cool ways they’re exploring atproto as a dev tool. Just like someone may talk about the app using SQLite or being in Rust
Narjo + Navidrome is so good for local music, support indie devs doing cool things
My take on all the AlphaFold disbanding… The organizations doing it now are likely to drive the field further and we don’t need Google to do it. (I am a bit biased but shoutout OpenFold).

Large changes are hard to review. Smaller pull requests make them easier to ship. Stacked PRs are now on GitHub. https://docs.github.com/en/pull-requests/how-tos/stacked-pull-requests?utm_source=bluesky-motion-graphic&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=stacked-prs-gtm-public-preview-2026

Uber Eats and DoorDash hid tip buttons and set default tips below 10%. As a result, tips for delivery workers fell 79%. In January, we made these corporations change their apps — and in the past six months, we've put $104 million back in delivery workers' pockets. This is only the beginning.

Definitely was not air gapped, but apparently that isn't bad design of your experiments, its "model capabilities" 🙄
Apple trying to get me to run betas again. Buddy I don’t do that anymore, that’s the old me.
Now is a good reminder that machine learning is a rebranding of statistical learning. Reinforcement learning is something I first came across in control theory. Many ML formulations are from information theory, a much more theoretically grounded discipline that's been around for decades.
There's a reason why "these are just statistical predictions" hasn't caught on in the discourse, and it's not the tech press. It's that people see them reading and writing and reasoning and scheming and they realize that the stochastic-parrots framing is outdated and inadequate to the moment
A fun image processing distraction today -- how to clean up the noisy background of a photo of a microfilm of a medieval manuscript? Thread, in which I use Photoshop, but similar tools are available in GIMP and other image processing software.
Got a bit of a range in quality, though much of the same type—the first picture is more or less usable, the second is tough going (especially because a lot of the words are abbreviated, so it's important to see details).

Going to do this for the pi-knot (name pending) soon!
hi all, we will be performing a migration on knot1.tangled.sh, all repositories on the knot will be read-only on tangled.org while we do this. the expected downtime is about 5-10 minutes if all goes well, apologies for the trouble! if you do encounter issues, post a message in this thread!

Goodbye File Browser, for Real This Time
Yesterday, I published the last planned release of File Browser. It includes a few security fixes and a notice about the wind-down of the project. Alongside it, I announced that this was the last planned release and updated the repository so that it's ready to be archived on September 1st. For many people this came as a surprise. For those who've been following the project from close by, probably not. Either way, I wanted to write a bit about the decision and how we got to this point.

In case bandwidth worries are holding you back from trying to host your own PDS 🫡
My Grafana dashboard is telling me that in the last 7 days my PDS has done about 290MB in HTTP requests and responses. It’s pretty negligible, you should be fine.
Hate to be the skeptic, but the open social web has never been and likely never will be the primary incentive for funding. Grants, sure—but venture, likely never.
My knot and spindle are now running on a Raspberry Pi. A few minor hiccups with the spindle migration but I think that might have been because of previous things I did to the old spindle.
Migrating my entire Tangled stack to a Raspberry Pi sitting in my basement. Is this the time I also throw a PDS in the mix?
It always pays to build stuff as a "core" and then make framework adapters
Follow-up... Using Kimi K3 at it and was able to use core to build out an Astro content loader with it and it seems to be working!
The Hugging Face incident was “both notable and alarming,” EFF’s @evacide.bsky.social told @sfexaminer.bsky.social, “not because ‘ooh, the model’s so powerful,’ but because it demonstrates a colossal failure on the part of OpenAI to secure the sandbox in which it was testing its model.”
