All the shock about the recent revelations that NYC leadership intentionally harmed people to get them back to work more quickly in dangerous conditions where the air was leading to long term illness is pretty ironic considering the current public health situation we’re in.

The proto-Effin’ Birds was my Tumblr “Swear Trek”. It opened a lot of doors for me and I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. I don’t have plans to revive it (one daily comic is enough work), just wanted to thank it for getting me here on this 60th anniversary of Star Trek.

Car free school streets - why delay? We support this proposed motion from the Active Transportation Advisory Committee urging HRM to produce an evidence-based final report www.halifax.ca/sites/defaul...

Date of Meeting: August 13, 2026
Subject: HRM-Led School Streets Pilot Program
Motion for Active Transportation Advisory Committee to Consider:
That the Active Transportation Advisory Committee recommend that the Transportation Standing Committee request the Chief Administrative Officer direct staff to prepare a report
on the HRM-led School Streets Pilot Program, as directed by Regional Council on November 14, 2023. The report should take into consideration the presentation received by the Active
Transportation Advisory Committee on April 16, 2026 regarding the 2024 Walk ’n Roll-led School Streets Pilot, including its outcomes, lessons learned, and recommendations.
Reason: The School Streets Pilot Program led by the Halifax Regional Municipality was not assessed based on all available data and insufficient reasoning and evidence was provided by HRM for not
moving forward with a School Streets Program.
Outcome Sought: For a staff report to prepare, considering the outcomes of the School Streets Pilot Program, which takes into account all available evidence, including the Walk ’n Roll led pilot program.

www.cbc.ca/news/climate... it’s really worth trying to get as much school drop-off / pick-up traffic as possible to not be cars. All the geometry problems that make cars awful are at their worst for something like this.

Which is when ICE decided to drive onto the sidewalk and come straight towards the crowd, forcing them to move out of the way or get run over. One woman did have her foot run over. Thankfully she was wearing steel-toed boots or some sort of protective footwear. (Frederick, MD - September 4, 2026)

Just a wee reminder on labour day that our economy is propped up by exploited unpaid domestic and care labour. This labour is primarily done by women. It is the only labour every single one of us requires to survive, yet it's treated as a duty rather than work worthy of compensation.

Never forget, the “Alberta Separatist Movement” is a relatively small number of unhinged conspiracy nuts being fed a steady diet of Russian and US-made disinformation, normalized by media mostly following the wrong story, and boosted by political opportunists who think (wrongly) they can control it.

“Both Russian and pro-Trump U.S. actors are amplifying and spreading misinformation about Alberta separatism in the hope of fraying Canadian unity and sowing distrust.” An overt attack on Canadian sovereignty, meant specifically to manipulate Canadians. That’s what’s fuelling Alberta separation.

In one episode, we have clips of different councillors saying that property taxes were never mean for 1) social programs and 2) (major) infrastructure. Which raises important questions like... 1) why are property taxes for? 2) why do we have councillors to manage taxes that can't pay for things?

The Somerville Guaranteed Basic Income pilot results are in: People started new jobs, switched industries, moved toward full-time hours, and dropped the second job they couldn't sustain. Cash didn't pull people out of work. It gave them room to work better.

Make it make sense. The only energy sovereignty lies in clean energy: no war can cut off supply, no bully can threaten or tariff it, the inputs are free forever. Canada, let’s get to work building true energy independence.
