Gardener, scientist, retired Headteacher, still working in schools.

Me neither, I'm just comparing his first few weeks on office with Starmer's. That said, he's only been in the job for 2 weeks, I do think he should have postponed this holiday to get stuck in, particularly as he's been plotting for 18 months and wanted this job for 16 years.

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

I think it is really important to do as much as possible away from teaching and education during the holidays. Children deserve the best version of us as people, not just teachers, and that means stepping away for a while. In my opinion.

I NEVER found KS either beige or boring. He was a completely normal working class lad who worked damn hard to get where he got in life, took on the near impossible job of picking the Labour Party out of the gutter after the disastrous 2019 GE as party leader, shaking it up and leading it to victory

They damn well shouldn't be, actions not wods should be the most crucial, I make no apology for posting this again. What a shallow nation we are if these achievements are ignored because they don't get enough clicks and likes.

Status of the Government's King's Speech bills, parliamentary session 2024-2026 Labour's achievements since July 2024

Agreed. How Burnham fares remains to be seen, but having leaders who've experienced defeat & tried to learn from it; who are willing to talk about what they got wrong; who've been in politics for more than 5 minutes & whose position has evolved used to be normal. It's not some Scooby-style unmasking

This is why the "B..but he stood for leader before and lost! Twice!" discourse was so dumb. Maybe people staying in politics when they lose or fail & sticking at it makes them...better? If we applied today's norms on when you're meant to leave politics, Churchill would've been gone after Gallipoli

War is raging in the Middle East, the planet is frying, Trump is messing around with tariffs again, we’re not in the EU so forgive me if I don’t join in on a discussion about lecterns. I’m still reeling from post after post about buses. Jesus. Is this the dumbing down of government?

Absolutely insane ain’t it and if someone says ‘we need to bring back hope’ I’m gonna go mental at them. I had hope and I can see a lot on here did so all he’s done is take that hope away. Unforgivable.

I’ve just been with a team making an ephemeral artwork for public display. As we take it down I wonder if we should have had a feedback sheet, but no, the freedom from the tyranny of counting likes and forcing people to have an opinion about everything is a rare treat. #toomuchfeedback

It doesn’t mean I will also agree/disagree with everything AB will do. I’m more about the policy, not who implements it. However, I think KS was ousted appallingly. His cabinet was arguably strong because of their experience and ability, appts made sense, not jobs for the boys or backstabbing.

And I believe Starmer's mantra has also been reduce the cost of living, not saying Burnham shouldn't focus on it too but it's literally already Government policy. Too many in the media and elsewhere are behaving as if Burnham has just won a landslide in a GE rather than become PM unopposed.

Andy Burnham, John Healey & UK media immediately thanked the Keir Starmer led government for their leadership & handling of the economy. Right?

Derby...more or less right in the middle of England, major road N/S and E/W junctions, M1 nearby, rail links all over the place, EMids airport just a spit away, nice parks...not too expensive, fairly calm quiet-ish place, has a river...

This is deeply disappointing. Couldn't we have a culture secretary who acually cared about culture and the arts. Brexit has made performing abroad so difficult for musicians, artists and actors, for instance - shouldn't somebody be trying to fix that?
