I keep seeing arguments for games being expensive due to hyper realistic expectations for art, or simply lots of art. What I don’t see is the actual most costly reason: Indecision Iteration is good, but the yearly rebuilding of entire characters, storylines, and levels, is the most expensive thing
Arvy@arvy.bsky.social · 7mo agoMany factors at play here - not the least of which is higher-ups (in their infinite wisdom) not being able to commit to anything, or knowing good from bad All the while the economy at large expects the profit line go infinitely up, absolutely ignoring its undeniable tendency to do the opposite

There is a direct throughline from this and the rise in global authoritarianism. Authoritarianism is actively hostile toward the arts and intellectualism, and thus imagination. When people say that AI is a “fascist project,” this is explicitly what they’re referring to.

The only acceptable Baldur's Gate 3 tv show is a painstakingly faithful recreation of the game with the entire cast as Muppets and Mads Mikkelsen as only human character, the Dark Urge.
I may delete this because it’s a bit spicy but it shouldn’t be lost on us that games being turned into TV is essentially harvesting the stories written by those who don’t have union representation or healthcare with WGA by those that do. Our stories are good enough for TV but the writers aren’t?
