Engage with media critically. So many smart people I know are unwilling to sit in any discomfort when talking about books they enjoy. You can like it and still acknowledge its faults! /gestures at the spanking and pink ribbons in WOT The auto-defensiveness kills me.

I’ve finished all of Hobb’s novels and now what do I do? I’m sad lol.
Thanks for sharing! As a longtime fan of the #WheelofTime books, the show was a gift--a telling through someone else's lens(es)--providing plenty of similarities and differences to be disappointed by, be delighted by, and to reflect on. And through it, I found #WOTskies !Delighted.
So… I cross-stitched some squirrel 🥜. What? It‘s ART. Over at @romancingthevote.com, you can bid on my framed Squirrel David & a five-pack of signed, personalized books with my chestiest covers. If sculpted torsos aren’t your thing, keep browsing the THOUSAND other items to benefit voting rights!

Is it just me or are all the illustrations of Fitz and crew too…white? It feels like the Buckkeep folks are brown-skinned based on the descriptions.
This is why cities need trees. Hard surfaces and parked cars can reach extreme temperatures, while shaded grass and tree-covered areas stay dramatically cooler. This is the urban heat island effect in one image: hard surfaces absorb and radiate heat, while vegetation and shade reduce it.
After reading the southern reach books, of course VanderMeer has Florida experience (this is a compliment to the tension and humidity of those books!)
"experiencez" is the plural of "experience" in Florida, as an indicator of the wtf once you have multiple there

Having someone think “She had a girlfriend, fuck, or a girlfriend and a boyfriend, something ambidextrous.” is amazing character work by @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social (I’m reading Absolution and this heatwave definitely puts me in a Florida wilderness headspace)
So we’re agreed that we’re all pulling for Algeria here, right?
some may be rooting for the u.s., or brazil, or argentina. but we all know the true people's team is Algeria
Norway seems like a lovely place with lovely people, but who’s not rooting for Iraq here?
Just stay up and watch Iraq v Norway, trust me, work tomorrow will be far less fun than this banger 🇮🇶🇳🇴
Iraqi soccer fans are waving Palestinian🇵🇸 as well as Iraqi 🇮🇶flags ahead of tonight's Iraq vs Norway FIFA game in Boston.
Why isn’t it 2-2 in the Iraq and Norway game? Was that not a goal??
I’m here trying to find commentary in English because I don’t want to pay to watch matches lol
I'm watching Norway vs. Iraq on Telemundo, so I can't understand anything. And I don't really know the rules of soccer...
Whoever chose the playlist for Daytona airport this morning has great taste in music
As a former teacher I think the senior assassin game thing is gross and truly makes me want to puke.
Work just published a very cool zine about the Māori perception of time and it's super good, you should read it https://pantograph-punch.com/posts/through-whakapapa-we-are-time-travellers

I was happy to see "The Road to the Spear" on the Hugo nominations list. I nominated it for short form, but with cancellation of the Wheel of Time, I wasn't sure it would get enough traction. Andor Season 2 is on the long form list as well. Nice! #WoTSkies
It took 449 hours, 18.7 days to listen too but I’ve finally finished the Wheel of Time for the first time. It was time well spent. To me among other things the series is about the beauty of humanity despite our failings. I would like to know what possessed Robert Jordan to include so much spanking
