If you're in Auckland this Saturday 18 July, join us for an art exhibition that glows in the dark! Hinātore: The First Light, is a free immersive exhibition exploring Māori pūrākau through bioluminescence, maho toi, and Western science. 10:30-4pm, Project Space. 20 Whitaker Place.

Poster for Hinātore: The First Light art exhibition. Set on a bluish green background, to the right is a cartoon drawing of a face representing the Māori atua Hinātore. She is portrayed in dark purple with white outlines. Her hair is pulled back from her face by a head band and she wears a long thin earing in her ear. She has a moko kauae. Her eye is glowing with a blue-white light. To the top left in greeny-white writing is the word 'Hinātore' in large capital letters. Under that, in smaller capitals are the words 'The First Light'. Under that it says: 'An immersive exhibition exploring Māori pūrākau through bioluminescence, maho toi, and Western science.' Below that are the words 'Project Space, Ground floor, in bold letters followed by Main Fine Arts Building 432, 20 Whitaker Place, Grafton, Auckland. Under that it has the date: Saturday, 18 July 2026 and the time 10:30am-4pm. Underneath that are the logos for Te Pūnaha Matatini, Nga Pāe Māramatanga, and the Bioluminescent Superbugs Lab.

I just learned that data centers don't even NEED to use all the water they're guzzling up. It's all because the people making them refuse to make proper cooling loops, but it's cheaper to just turn all that water into waste. What the actual fuck. Want for efficiency is dead apparently.

“In short: Thiel and Palantir are positioning themselves to control nothing less than the operating system of the major Western powers. Concerns over the algorithmic organization of cultural consumption or political propaganda seem, at this point, like mere child’s play.”

What is Peter Thiel up to in Argentina? The right-wing tech billionaire’s move is about more than fleeing taxes, prepping for catastrophe or an affinity with the libertarian Javier Milei — it’s about a new kind of power. *Brilliant* piece by @palabarces.bsky.social newlinesmag.com/argument/wha...

24,000 voices got their submission in on the Conservation (Exploitation) Amendment Bill over the last weekend alone! And our petition is at over 48,000 signatures and counting 😱👏👏🌏🌳🐧 Keep the pressure on. Force this Government to sink this bill, just like their harmful Fisheries bill ✊️ Links below!

You think the Greens having a typo in their tax policy document is bad? I heard Chlöe Swarbrick personally cancelled a half-billion dollar deal to replace our ageing interislander ferries via text message and then we had to pay Hyundai $144 million in contract breaking fees for it oh wait.........

Who has two thumbs and popped into Tūranga today for the NZ National Flash Fiction Day Awards? And returned home with 6 graphic novels and 1 novel? [Yes, I already have two books on the go, one of which is the ENORMOUS tome Jerusalem (Alan Moore) :P This nerd.

And we should do the same here. Plus all that unused roof space we have, which just chucks heat and energy back into an atmosphere that _really_ doesn't need it? Solar and gardens! [Check out SUPA, btw :) supa.energy ]

"France passed a single law and instantly unlocked 11 gigawatts of #solarenergy — without using new land. In 2023, France's government mandated solar canopies over all car parks larger than 80 spaces. The scale was enormous: There are 400,000 parking areas across France #ActOnClimate #Renewables
