This thread is important because it’s core to why the Nolan adaption was not actually woke and felt almost regressive. The original Greek stories arguably treated women better, with more respect! Giving Ann Hathaway a few throwaway lines about how she’s overlooked and powerless doesn’t change that.

Depicting Jewish people with horns is a centuries-old, dehumanizing, antisemitic trope. Democratic Gov nominee Phil Weiser is outspoken about his mother’s birth in a Nazi concentration camp, his family members killed in the Holocaust, and the threat posed by antisemitism today.

I watched the Devil Wears Prada 2 last night and it’s like 100% fan service. On a sort of shameless level tbh. Worse than a lot is Star Wars/Marvel. Which means I liked it! lol But I am pretty sure it’s not a great standalone movie if you have no emotional connection to the original.

Like, you cannot fully understand what the system does and why it works until you understand there is a very real preference among a very real portion of the population—mainly people who CAN afford better things and simply choose not to buy them—for inexpensive things with a known quality deficit

this boils down to "the pandemic didn't actually happen but they still closed the applebees" which frankly i think is a trauma response by a lot of people that buy it - lot easier to be in denial that things were that bad instead of reckoning with 1.3m dead people [in this country]
