Extremely concerning news that Jodrell Bank in Cheshire is facing closure, after UKRI announced the end of their funding from 2028. Though the Lovell Telescope is Grade I listed, the best strategy for preserving this internationally significant site is surely to keep the observatory in active use.

The meeting for worship with attention to World Domination has found fairly strong consensus on which world to dominate, but is nowhere near sharing a common view of what sort of domination would be appropriate, nor on means to achieve that end beyond speaking truth to the powerful and powerless.

The question of “what is a woman” is a witch finders trick. I allows the mob to join a public shaming of anyone who will not submit to a false premise. “Are you a witch” -“no I am not a witch” “ah so you believe in witches” - “no I’m just saying it’s complicated”- (looks to mob) BURN THE WITCH!

This is new and completely wierd. To proof that I am not an AI, cloudflare now wants me to enter something in the terminal, of unknown origin. Sorry, no way.

If you think photographing birds in flight is difficult, you want to try moths!😅 This is a wonderful Hummingbird Hawkmoth, photographed yesterday from my bedroom window, just as it banked around to change direction!😀😍 Just look at that proboscis 🦋 (The moth looks a bit like a fish doesn't it!)😁

A barrister represents his clients in court. Clients who are political dissidents. He now faces criminal prosecution for doing so. Not Turkey. Not Egypt. Not Russia. England. Astonishing, deeply disturbing, and part of a long slide towards authoritarianism. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Sad to hear that Jamie Urquhart has passed away. He managed the VLSI team at Acorn that created ARM1 and its support ICs and later co-founded ARM. I chatted with him at Steve Furber's Festschrift at Manchester University and he had so many wonderful stories about his time at Acorn and ARM. RIP Jamie

Jamie Urquhart is on the far right.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jamie Urquhart. We were honoured to welcome Jamie to our ARM1 at 40 celebrations last year. Here he reflects on his early interest in electronics. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and all who knew him.
