I feel like a real fish swimming against the current here but I think that "so what" as in "OK so what does this sermon mean for us" is INCREDIBLY valuable. The problem is when that means you skip the "what about God" part.

One of my parishioners told me that she would NEVER doubt that I wrote my own sermons, she is TOTALLY sure I do not use AI just based on their content, and I don't think I've ever had a better compliment! (yes she meant it as a compliment)
excuse me????? I'm old now. Sic transit gloria mundi. (my friends and I used to play Meat Loaf on its jukebox in order to get the most for our money and at one point nearly got in a physical fight with some fellow hotcake patrons at like 2AM over it)
My Portland casualty is the original hotcake house no longer being 24 hours. Sometimes you want pancakes and hash browns at 2AM and the place now closes at ELEVEN.
In an obvious "Duh..." today: The people behind one of the biggest attacks on trans rights, under the guise of "protecting [cis] women" - don't actually care about women. In fact, their attacks on trans women's sports was indirectly gender affirming: part of their larger attack on women’s sports 🏳️⚧️
My god. The Heritage Foundation, which mercilessly attacked transgender kids in order to protect the "integrity of women's sports," is now attacking the legal basis for women's sports. The transgender student decision is barely 2 weeks old.
If 100 years, great-grandparents: this is boring. I was AFAB. I'd be suffering through a lot of childbirth and possibly an abusive husband. If I get to be a man: I can pick between lazy rich scion of a brick fortune, undertaker, sheep herder and sometime speakeasy bouncer, or railroad man.
Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?
One thing that's really making me go "did only I get this" about Odyssey discourse: It seemed clear to me that Zendaya's character is not in fact Athena but Cassandra? (Recall: in some versions of the sack of Troy Ajax the Lesser rapes Cassandra and Athena's statue is destroyed in the process)
incidentally my favorite Christopher Nolan movie based purely on how much I enjoyed it personally and how much I want to rewatch it, always, is TENET. yes this makes me an absolute little freak
This basically sums up for me why although I respect Emily Wilson's expertise *and* I don't think The Odyssey was completely successful I am quite annoyed at the way that review basically dismisses filmmaking as "yeah whatever it was pretty"
Again I think almost ANY interesting work will take place beyond the boundaries of what has been done before, and usually also at the intersection of multiple bodies of work being crossbred in new combinations. The resulting mutation can easily be judged a failure by the standard of its predecessors
I NO LONGER NEED SUPPRESS MY TAKES! HOORAY!

God bless the Church in Wales!!
Incredible statement from the Church in Wales on the ignominious Code of Practice: "The Church in Wales will not use equality law exemptions to exclude trans people from our worship, our sacraments, our pastoral care, or our common life." www.churchinwales.org.uk/en/news-and-...
ON the one hand, I absolutely feel the urge to make fun of these schismatic dudes ON the other hand, I'm basically allergic to making fun of liturgy, because it's so easy to do and it's SO mean to people for whom these acts are important parts of prayer. And that goes all directions.
In general I think members of other churches should stay out of other churches’s divisions, but in this instance precisely bc I’m an Anglican I will observe that deciding an Ecumenical Council doesn’t count is a great way to ensure you’re out of Communion with the Pope. fsspx.news/en/news/how-...
A lot of media coverage of the ‘AI’ reading of the Herculaneum scrolls really fails to understand what’s happened here. There’s no language processing happening, the AI/ML is not trained on a corpus of texts or language. It can detect ink to see shapes. HUMAN EXPERTS are then transcribing the text.
Many many people are tired of Cory Doctorow and fair enough but also basically the man is right arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026...

All discernment is subjective because it’s about subjects. I’m sorry. I know it’s easy to just hate subjectivism and relativism but eventually you start to forget that Christian life is expressed in witness, which means doing stuff, and just not any stuff, which means you have to think about it.

my big pet peeve today: that every version of "this land is your land" they play for kids is bowlderized. it's like when you hear a hymn and they leave out the banging verses about the eschaton
an unexpected occasion of mercy is cause for joy and reflection. people sometimes like to detail, in response, the gruesome crimes of people the state seeks to execute, but it doesn't matter what anyone did: state sanctioned execution is barbaric, no less so than any crime it seeks to punish.
BREAKING: SCOTUS denies Alabama's request to let it proceed with the nitrogen gas execution of Jeffery Lee that was scheduled for tonight. Justices Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch note their dissent. Jeffery Lee will not be killed tonight. Background: www.lawdork.com/p/alabama-ni...

"It’s worth remembering, however, that no one is making him do this. ... Lestat just isn’t a planner." In her first TVL recap for us, @gavia.bsky.social dives into the chaotic season opener: the tonal shift from IWTV, the nature of Lestat's music and fame, and Sam Reid's singular talents:
different topic: the vampire lestat. I enjoyed it immensely, I also have notes, but also also, go read the first page of the novel: they definitely got the tone shift on the nose lol.
some food things are way worse in Norway (never eat a Norwegian taco if you can avoid it) but some things are way better and one of them is cottage cheese. it actually tastes like the thing you can make in your own kitchen!! God bless.
