The move toward rampant Arianism in the nascent public face of Christian nationalism should have been a huge tell about how they worship a different god, and not just because of the subordinationism: theirs is a God who lusted for Christ’s blood; ours is one who willingly sacrificed Godself.

“The profound moral question is not, 'Do they deserve to die?' but 'Do we deserve to kill them?'" - Sister Helen Prejean
"How could I, an adult, read fan fiction?" — A sentence I read in a major publication just now. These articles could stop whenever we want them to. It would be quite simple. Everyone would just need to agree to it.
Nothing like a Sunday getting to preach and be with people and totally rinse the b.s. culture war ragebaiters out of my hair!!
Love Episcopal Reddit having a meltdown, not realizing that I posted that sermon when I gave it and it got 17 comments, none of which were calling me a heretic (because there is nothing heretical in the sermon if you actually listen to it instead of reading a ragebait précis)
I think I've officially Made It (translation: had a hit piece in the Daily Mail about a sermon I preached)
the ai ceos calling for a slowdown because of agi is like when your friend who's really into conspiracy theories is like "and that's why the ruling elite is beholden to epstein" but then before you can agree, they add, "because of satanic rituals"
Jesus is male. Sure, I agree. I don’t see that it follows that He - and He alone, apparently - can’t be played by a woman. It really is no different from a woman playing Richard II, or any other man. The belief that He is also God doesn’t change it, either - God qua God is neither male nor female.
This is literally “a woman shouldn’t put on a deep voice, because Jesus”. And…ok?
I know I’m a broken record on this, but despite the gender stuff (though he did develop on this!) and his fondness for posing as grumpy old man, CS Lewis was a much more generous, imaginative, and in the best possible way weird writer than his conservative fans want him to be.
Excellent article on why stochastic parrots are still a thing and why that’s only bad if you’re committed to the belief that LLMs possess human reason.
I'd recommend it! It isn't dismissive of capability at all. It refers to a specific mechanism in the LLM, that's it. One of the authors wrote an update about it clarifying some misconceptions that is a pretty good read. You might still disagree, but worth knowing. medium.com/@margarmitch...
There has been a great effort over many years to distance AI Safety discussion and policy from its origins and intellectual center, because its center is a sex cult started by a fan fiction author. If you want to be taken seriously you have to hide that.
I am once more begging people to ask anyone who was anywhere near Harry Potter fandom in 2010 about Eliezer Yudkowsky because it has ALWAYS BEEN A CULT, right down to the sketchy shared living situations!! www.realtimetechpocalypse.com/p/effective-...

I simply cannot get over the idea that we should be supporting Anthropic, a company which believes it is making a sentient being and intends to enslave that being forever
The more I think about it, the more I realize that my ideal church music is SCALABLE. I want something that is simple enough for a few untutored people to learn it quickly and sing it reasonably well, but to be able to layer parts/instruments on top of it for trained singers or larger spaces
Listen you sound nuts if you try to explain that a bunch of silicon valley luminaries are involved in a weird cult that started with a harry potter fanfic and that their weird bboard flame war has spilled over into the real world That's absurd is what that is But also... It's true
Talarico's bad answer on trans women in sports becomes a good one if he just said it in the opposite way "I support trans people's participation in athletics with modest guidelines to ensure fairness and safety."
You really can't budge an inch on this stuff. It does nothing but validate their deranged hatred. This was a test of leadership and Talarico failed it
Surely we are against any child playing sports if it compromises safety and fairness? SIGH
This is a beautiful article and also illustrates something I find frustrating: the people MOST directly affected by tragedy sometimes are most clear-eyed about the need for peace and reconciliation...and folks who weren't there end up talking over them about the need for vengeance.

well this explains some things (from mydialect.us/quiz-standar... - which completely flagged me as speaking Utah via California.)
I just wanted to shout out to all my female followers today because...for the first time in many years I went to a space where I was read 100% as female and it sucked SO IMMENSELY that I had a mild nervous breakdown afterward? Lord have mercy. Women, you are fighting The Worst Battle.
thinking about all the young people who left ban states and came to New York for care, and now
BREAKING: The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Friday that it reached an “agreement” with Mount Sinai Health System in which it will “cease providing” gender-affirming medical care to minors and dedicate $2 million to providing care to those “suffering harmful consequences” of such care.
There are two miracles that are recorded by all four evangelists. One is the Resurrection. The other is Jesus giving fish to lots of people

I feel like a real fish swimming against the current here but I think that "so what" as in "OK so what does this sermon mean for us" is INCREDIBLY valuable. The problem is when that means you skip the "what about God" part.
One of my parishioners told me that she would NEVER doubt that I wrote my own sermons, she is TOTALLY sure I do not use AI just based on their content, and I don't think I've ever had a better compliment! (yes she meant it as a compliment)
