I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from

1. Rick Steves has spent $2 million of his own money to rescue a single-screen theater in Edmonds, WA. This is part of a multi-million-dollar effort he has made to invest in community properties in order to preserve local institutions and keep them serving the communities they were built for.
I love the string & washer envelope closure. So satisfying to unlock and (especially) to wind it shut. Been around in this specific embodiment for at least 100 years. Long may it last.
i did it, i finally wrote about Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey (and the Statue of Liberty, and Planet of the Apes, and Iris Murdoch)

I want to track down this desk and also find a Lenin in his tomb action figure
New desk has a bizarre glass viewing panel into one of the drawers and I didn’t know what to put there so currently I have the Snorlax plush I’ve had since I was a kid lying in state.
Watched "Warlock" for the first time since 1991 (?). Almost ashamed to say how much I enjoyed it: high camp lifted by Sands & Grant. I like that Mennonites possess traditional knowledge about witchcraft & maintain reciprocal membership privileges with seventeenth-century New England witch hunters.
23 YEARS AGO TODAY, @mrweebl.bsky.social posted BADGERS to @Newgrounds.com
Back in the 1900s, we could use our olive green rotary telephones as actual weapons against the masked man who interrupted our sexy slumber parties.

Part of what should be the world-wide FRANK FEST today to celebrate!
Good Sci-fi Sunday evening, #MutantFam and #MST3K! I am now watching/rewatching The Cinematic Titanic Live version of Don Dohler The Alien Factor (1978) on YouTube, and I am watching this to celebrate TV Franks aka Frank Conniff 70th birthday today! 👽🎈🥳🎂🛸 #Horror365Challenge: #137/365
I’m 70 today. Feels like crossing a threshold into official old age. I’m cool with it. I’m publishing a new novel. Wrote a musical Xmas special due out later this year. Trace & I are launching a new movie riffing series. And I’m part of the new MST3K. Making things is my birthday present to myself.
When I started teaching in law school I was asked to speak to an undergrad meeting sponsored by the lit and phil depts. I stressed that the best prep for law school would come in poetry or analytic phil classes, or any classes with close reading. Because that's a foundational skill for lawyers.
This is very good.. I loved the relationship that @johannawinant.bsky.social establishes between close reading and speaking up and arguing for a case. She claims that the difference between a student's close reading of a Renaissance poem and a citizen's+ www.bostonreview.net/articles/the...
Out cycling this morning, and sad to suspect the turkey vultures have already left for the season (they're only here for the summer on Vancouver Island). But many larks, a red-tailed hawk, Canada geese, and many wall lizards.
Dante was just helping with morning stretches. “I see you’re working up to “downward dog,” try “wiggling cat” instead.” He twined his way between my braced arms and threw himself down to purr and wiggle.

I am frustrated on friends' behalf: they're trying to adopt a kitten, but the fosters have missed 2 intro call appointments. Maybe the fosters are considering giving their charge a home; who knows. I just hope the kitten ends up where she will be deeply loved (as she would be with my friends). Sigh
With all the obits for Tim Curry, none mention his great role as Dr. Petrov in The Hunt for Red October. “Well if you like borsch perhaps, but I've eaten better in an oily GALLEY. My wife said to the waiter, "where did this man learn to cook? AFGHANISTAN?”
Yeah, I think a Juice Box photo is called for right about now.
At the top, Lac Ontario identified on a map from 1688. On the bottom, the announcement in February 1867 that the new province would take its name from Lake Ontario.
