there are a lot of philosophical concepts that get egregiously misused out of the seminar room (and in the seminar room, to be fair). but in terms of sheer pernicious misuse "social construct" has gotta be top 5 somewhere and it's not number 5

Some info on the Code of Practice Seen some confusion. The 40 day scrutiny period did not end today, because it doesn't run during Parliamentary recess. By my maths it ends 9th July. After that it still requires a commencement order (not sure how long this will be, previously took a few weeks).

In other words, this does not protect the people who need the protection from conversion therapy the most in 2026 - it appears to me to instead license the state to carry on with its version of conversion therapy, because that version isn't seen as abusive. In formal legal terms: gross. /fin

Given that all 'therapy' is carried out with the intention of providing healthcare (the clue is in the name...) then, no conversation therapy is banned whatsoever? Cool. This will be a great use of Parliament's time and resources.

Lots to say about this quote from Phillipson but I think a key element is how cis people are understood as 'biological' and therefore as having material needs (services, spaces) where as trans people are an 'identity' and therefore only have cultural/recognitional needs ('not being pilloried').

“I don't want trans people to be constantly pilloried on social media for being who they are and wanting to live the lives that they want to lead. “But also I want women to be able to access the services and service providers to be able to deliver the services that they believe are necessary on a single sex basis for women who have experienced male violence. I don't think those two things ought to be in conflict.”

Today in AI Is Not A Good Source For Learning About The World's Most Misunderstood Body Part, meet this ChatGPT gem. Funnily enough, we're actually going to talk about how most of this is kinda sorta right (for small values of right), as a cautionary tale about generative AI.

At this point, I genuinely believe the entire public is being actively gaslit by both the media, and Esther Ghey herself, into forgetting that Brianna Ghey was murdered, by people she knew from school, in real life, who were partly influenced by transphobia, fuelled by the media and politicians.

Important reminder - a year long 'investigation' took place without even once speaking to any family, child or young person involved. Not even once. Cos the people involved are happy with the care provided, consider it critical and often life-saving care. The investigation is a giant fraud.
