#OTD 1937 Jerzy Neyman introduces the confidence interval in a talk given at the Royal Statistical Society. Listeners are not enthusiastic: in the vote of thanks, AJ Bowley wonders aloud if confidence intervals are just a “confidence trick”, doubts their validity & if they were any possible use.

This is an actual line that was added to the official system prompt for Codex for GPT-5.5 by OpenAI. Usually the system prompt is as minimal as possible, so I assume it would otherwise mention goblins a lot. AIs are weird.
I'm happy to contribute to scientific surveys. I'm much less happy to be told the survey is "anonymous" when the combination of questions makes re-identification entirely feasible. If you collect sensitive personal data, please be more careful.
If you use @posit.co Positron for #rstats, I just released Quickview. 🚀🎉 This tiny extension lets you quickly inspect the current selection in the View tab or in an external software. I used it as an RStudio add-in for years and it's a huge quality-of-life gain. 🔗 github.com/fkeck/quickv...

Our paper “The global human impact on biodiversity” turns one today! 🎂 This figure did not make it into the paper, but I still think it is the most striking. It stacks the 3667 multivariate analyses. Each point is a community. 🔵=reference; 🔴=human-impacted. ⬇️
