BIG PLOT TWIST in TX: Tarrant County's GOP officials, faced with intense public outrage about huge cuts to the battleground county's polling locations in November, have decided to delay their final vote on the plan so more polling places can be added

Jen Rice@jenrice.bsky.social · 2d ago

They're probably hoping you won't hear about this. But tomorrow in TX, Tarrant County officials meet to vote on a GOP plan to cut almost HALF of Election Day voting locations, plus 8 early voting locations, some of them on campuses. Not hard to guess why. fortworthreport.org/2026/07/30/t...

You can never just move on from this, even after he's gone. Without punishment and ostracism for everyone who has participated in his crime spree over the last 18 months you can forget it- we're all just treading water until the next tyrant

A lot of the MAGA crowd wants the US to essentially become like the UAE, where there’s an enormous foreign workforce who have substantially fewer rights than citizens and are subject to awful working conditions. It’s a fever dream, but it’s their fever dream.

Don't miss this vile story: MAGA is raging at DHS chief Markwayne Mullin for admitting migrant farmworkers can beneft our economy. This means his devotion to ethnic cleansing is in doubt. He must be excommunicated! I wrote about the collapse of MAGA mythology here: newrepublic.com/article/2138...

Blanche’s remarks “go far beyond the actions on abortion he promised during his confirmation hearing. They also conflict with promises President Donald Trump made on the campaign trail to keep the federal government from enforcing restrictions on the pills.”

Blanche assures anti-abortion supporters that Dobbs will be ‘permanent in every single state’

The acting attorney general made the remarks during a private call with faith leaders.

My personal name for this is MacGuffin fiction. Doesn't qualify as sci-fi/fantasy/speculative fiction for me because it's not interested in the broader fictional world and circumstances that creates and surrounds the MacGuffin, just the MacGuffin's role in the story the author wants to tell.

Is there a name for what I think of as “assistive sci-fi or fantasy” - i.e. where there’s a fantastical element but it’s just there as a device to explore the theme. I don’t mean “this scifi is also deep”, like LeGuin, I mean i.e. “the scifi element is a device to move the real plot along”

Embarrassing to see the EIC of Mother Jones repeat and amplify disinfo and fearmongering like this. It's a cheek swab or blood test.

Wild pair of paragraphs in Press Herald's story on Susan Collins and Troy Jackson's roots in Aroostook County. Who knew that being a worker and hiring workers were the same thing! (Lots of ownership class folks think this way, actually.) #MEpolitics

Press Herald article: Each of their families has played a part in the lumber industry, a pillar of the county’s economy — Jackson’s as loggers, Collins’ as owners of a lumberyard.
“Certainly you could, in effect, say we’re both from a family of loggers,” Sam Collins, 68, the senator’s younger brother and president of S. W. Collins Co., said in his office in Caribou, referring to a period when the company employed loggers.
